You have the unique opportunity to claim one of Canmore's historic landmarks as your second home in the mountains for a month at a time. This cabin was initially built in 1910 on the banks of the Bow River for the Directors of the Canadian Anthracite Coal Co. Situated in Mineside, or Rundleview (depending on who you ask), many locals walk past daily on their way to various outdoor pursuits and wonder about the inhabitants of the stately log cabin. Located only a few blocks from Main Street Canmore, the Bow River Chalet is perfectly located to give you the feeling of privacy on the river banks, and also the luxury of being close to all the action of town. Sit on one of the two large decks and enjoy expansive views of the majestic mountains while the waters of the Bow River glide past.
Main Level: As you enter the house through the coat room, you'll find yourself in the sunny downstairs living and dining room. With a large gas fireplace and cozy couches, this room is wonderful for nestling in with a book. The dining table has seating for 8 people. The original timber framing is evident here, preserved in the renovations throughout the years. As you continue further into the house you'll find yourself in the kitchen. The hutch in this room has many interesting pieces of pottery, and historical photos of the house throughout its life. Accessed from here are a full bathroom, the laundry room, and a door to the front covered porch.
Located off of the kitchen is the first bedroom, which was built as an addition. The original exterior log walls make for a fascinating accent wall, along with the built in bookcase (full of books) that was cleverly converted from a window. There is also an exterior door in this room, which you can use to access the private, fenced back yard. Further down the hall off of the kitchen you will find another bedroom, with its own sitting area and en suite bathroom.
Upper Level: If you were to continue up the spiral staircase found in the kitchen, you'll find yourself on the upper level. Turning left when leaving the staircase will find you in the second of the master bedrooms, which has an electric fireplace in the sitting area, a skylight, and a full en suite bathroom. Taking a right from the top of the stairs will bring you into the upper living area. First you'll find yourself in the kitchen, which has sweeping views of the river and Grotto & Lady Macdonald mountains. The table along the window in this area has been voted the best views for morning coffee!
Accessed off of the kitchen are another full bathroom, and the final bedroom - which has a private work space if you need a place away from the rest of your family to get some e-mails sent. Walking through the kitchen will find you in the upstairs living area. Two couches (easily converted to sofa beds) and a couple of comfy chairs make this an easy room to set up for a movie night, made even better by the surround sound and gas fireplace. You'll also find the door for the upstairs deck overlooking the river, and an upstairs exit, with stairs that will take you back down to the driveway.
Outdoor Space: Enjoy stargazing from the tranquil private patio off the back of the property, or light a fire and roast some marshmallows. The two outdoor spaces (the downstairs covered patio and upper deck) are prime people watching locations.
