This is my 3rd time to visit Splendita, this time I took my parents with me. They have deep love for gardens and they needed a holiday in warm weather, so I suggested this place. They really loved the setting of the hotel, and how friendly staff was, and how nice the room was.
We stayed in garden studios this time, and had a lovely court yard view just above the swimming pool (i.e. great wifi connection, yay for me!). The room was rather freshly renovated and spacious and bright. All kitchen stuff was there with modern cooker so we made breakfast everyday.
The supermarket nearby re-opened recently and had pretty good range of food etc. (they even had fresh milk!) though we still shopped in the large supermarket on top of the hill.
Hotel is great for relaxing but my mother wanted to use gym and was delighted to find bicycle machine in the pool room and she could use it for free. My father enjoyed the game of pool, too.
We had dinner in La Perla, the seafood restaurant within hotel, and very much enjoyed the course menu accompanied with wines. Service there was immaculate.
I love the spa there, too. Had the best massage ever followed by relaxing facial, came out feeling like a million dollars!!
A few, very minor negatives;
They have ants. They always have them no matter which room you stay. DO make sure to put away ANY food from the worktop!
They have no mug cups there. (I always bring one with me.)

Great location and very clean room. Layout a little strange with having to walk out onto main road to access room but hotel grounds are beautiful with 3 great pools to choose from. Rooms are clean and specious but no air con was a real problem for us. Breakfast was continental but plentiful with lots of choice. Hotel is dated but not half as bad as some people make out. Garajau is a nice area too with lots of cafes and restaurants on hotel doorstep.
Unfortunately it absolutely poured with rain, very heavy tropical rain every day I was there - according to people who have been going regularly for 30 years this was very unusual freak weather for end of October -so it hightlighted a need to find things to do on a very wet mountain!

Leading a busy life where we rarely have time for ourselves it was wonderful to stay in this beautiful hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made our stay so pleasant. Have already recommended this hotel to our friends. The food was of an excellent standard and we even brought our friends for a meal after we had checked out and had gone to stay at our apartment in Funchal. We were able to completely relax here. Thank you so much to all the staff.

We liked this hotel as it is in a quiet spot, located on the cliffs in the village of Canico de Baixo, which is a short drive from the capital, Funchal. The hotel has a free bus going to Funchal 3 times a day, which was great, but the local buses also had a fairly regular timetable. Although it was February, it was warm enough to sit out on a sunbed on one of the many areas cut into the rocks. We were able to use the facilities of the hotel next door, which had an indoor pool and gym.The breakfast each morning was more than adequate, and the many options varied from day to day. The reception staff were very knowledgable about the island, and were able to book trips for you.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Easy access using Hotel or Public Bus and Taxi to Funchal. Book a Minibus trip at reception, Nun's Valley trip was great, lots of places to visit and things to do, Cable Car trip to Monte Palace Gardens, Catamaran Dolphin spotting, Aqua Park nearby etc etc. Some great restaurants within walking distance near the Spar shop and lovely lady with souvenir shop, carry on along the coast to Reis Magos for a swim in the sea.
A popular resort area, Caniço is on the southeastern coast of Madeira, a short drive from the capital city of Funchal. The clear waters of nearby Garajau Marine Park attract scuba divers, who are likely to see Atlantic manta rays and large fish species such as groupers. Several top-ranked golf courses are also within easy reach.
