Needs some TLC
Chose Smokehouse because of its British charm, which it has in abundance. Sadly the hotel is little lacking in quality, more of an issue when paying a premium. The service was just ok. Polite team but no real enthusiasm to go the extra mile, despite encouraging words. Their saving grace is the food, especially the roasts and English Breakfast, which were excellent. Give the hotel some TLC and it could be worth the premium rate.

The Smokehouse is charming and the grounds are gorgeous. Even though the hotel shows the stress of time, it is still a wonderful place to stay.

we had a good room at hilltop 5 . i liked that it was very well ventilated. the shower head is quite erratic and water splashed all over bathroom as there was no curtain around the bath area. all else was good

As you can see from the photos, it is a lovely building and the gardens and flowers are superb. The room was quite compact. The breakfast was superb. The value for money is questionable.

This is our second time at this hotel. We love the Timeless quality of this hotel. The large, fireplace seating areas are perfect for a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Our room was large and faced the first class Garden surrounding the hotel. We got an upgrade and will return. Excellent staff!

Charming, cosy, lovely stay
I have heard so much about the rooms in Smokehouse. Needless to say I was still surprised at the suite that was allocated to us - Ambleside Suite. It was spacious. It was beautiful. It was rustic. It was comfortable and cosy. Of the few remaining rooms of the original building, it was a treat. The living was huge. Huge TV, some condiments and a Nespresso machine. A rather cute fireplace that look decorative. There were some lamps that tried to light up the somewhat dark room after sunset. The bedroom with 4-posters bed was charming. Clean sheets, firm beds, really warm duvets for the usually cold nights. Toilets spacious and clean. Good supply of heated water. Amenities were provided. It was a tad bit difficult keeping the toilet dry during showering and it got a little slippery. One could just unwind at this lovely place enjoying good afternoon tea with one the best scones in Cameron Highlands served with clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. It was bliss. Restaurant and bar closes rather early at 9:30pm. Otherwise the location of smokehouse may be of a distance to Tanah Rata and Brinchang town, but with the cooler climate in Cameron Highland, it is nice to go for walks. Information on the suites don't come by easily. I've been trying to search for the suites and rooms the hotel has to offer.

Hotel combining old world charm and modernities
We stayed a Saturday night at this hotel. The room was a large suite and was filled with beautifully maintained antique funiture but was clean and functional. Modern touches such as fast wifi, TV with Astro for the World Cup and a Nespresso machine were fantastic. The bathroom was large and well appointed. We ate at the restaurant (afternoon tea and dinner) and drank at the bar which is just like an old English bar complete with fireplace. The food was good and reasonably priced. The hotel is centrally located in the Highlands. It was reasonably pricey compared to other options but was well worth it.

We stayed at this hotel 27 years ago and enjoyed its quirky theme. However, there appears to have been a lack of investment and inspiration over the years. We were given a family room which had windows opening onto the industrial waste bins in the courtyard below, the smell from the bins and the musty smell of the old furnishings was extremely unpleasant. The room was in need of a total renovation. Rooms, food and drinks are all comparatively expensive. On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant. Unfortunately, after looking forward to revisiting after such a long time, we couldn’t wait to check-out.

Hotel in the highlands with an old English charm
We stayed at the smokehouse for two nights whilst visiting the highlands and loved it. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The room wasn’t modern but exactly as expected being based on an old English pub - a bit tired in places but with an indescribable charm. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Beautiful classic hotel
Fantastic experience for those who likes vintage style...the room we stayed was like a small cottage (not like normal hotel suites)...the landscape was well maintained and beautiful...suitable distance to tanah rata town (not so near yet not so far)...next to golf course...3 mins drive to daily night market (golden hills)...most importantly, people will enjoy if they want to stay away from crowds...

Shabby but not chic hotel
Our room, inaptly named halcyon was damp including the bed linen. We changed rooms. No rooms have beside lamps and all light switches are in bakelite and are next to the door. Dinner was very poor and expensive but the waiters at breakfast were very good. The whole hotel needs to be renovated and the many corrugated plastic roofs gathering vegetation need replacing. It was very disappointing.overall.

A gem in the rolling hills of Cameron.
Lovely hotel with kind staff. Good selection of breads. The lamb roast was a let down. On the whole a very beautiful stay at the Olde smokehouse.

Not that great experience!!!
1. The room water heater only allowed 1 person usage if you want to bath using bath tub.. The next person need to wait another 20-30 min for water to heat up again. Never experience this in other hotel, the management should inform us first. 2. The check in is abit slow. We waited there for 15 min without knowing they actually serving us a welcome tea/coffee. but at least inform us first. Waited there like an idiot. 3. The cars passed by infront of the hotel are loud. The main road which is located outside hotel is jam during the holidays and buses park as they wish at the junction entrance during pasar malam night..Bad experience!!!!! 4. Room is smelly!!!

Location of this hote is quite hard to find actually. We actually depended on the signboard “iris hotel” that is beside to locate it. Place is nicely done up and has an old English feel, place for breakfast and dinner has good ambience. Breakfast is by set, either A or B, with some choices in between When checking out, we were provided with 2 sets of cheese sandwiches and fruits which we felt thoughtful and kind gesture. Bed and pillows may not be suitable for us though, I woke up with back ache and my Wife woke up with strained neck. Those with big luggage’s may want to consider at lower level floors as our unit requires flight of stairs which may be tedious, but of course higher floors means more privacy and quietness

Place to relax and enjoy the cool air.
Check in for 1 night stay. Enjoyed walking around the garden planted with varieties of plants. Rained in the late afternoon but we still enjoyed the cool and fresh air. Relaxing and refreshing holiday for me and my wife.

Our room was lovely/clean. Restaurant was poor - we ordered chicken and started eating before realising the chicken was pink /not cooked. Luckily I hadn't eaten much at all but my friend was sick constantly on her flight back to the UK. We did not find the staff to be very apologetic when we informed them about the chicken.

A little piece of heaven in the highlands
A little piece of heaven in Camerons. If you need to get away, the Smokehouse is just perfect. The cool fresh air, quiet ambience, the English charm and the hospitality; the best experience. The staff are wonderful and service is exceptional; indeed it is service with heart. This is the kind of place you want to just relax in and not do anything else, except soak in the ambience, or sit in the beautiful garden and read or at most take a walk around the beautiful golf course. Bring a book, bring two, relax and read. In the evening, savour the best scones with tea and later relax and keep warm near the fireplace, and enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail or wine and have a chat with Jo. Don't miss Chef Nathan's roast lamb. It's divine! Breakfast is freshly prepared upon order; it is scrumptious and keeps you going the whole day! It's like having a home in the highlands. The people are wonderful, make you feel at home. Will definitely return. Take the Simpang Pulai way if you wish to avoid the narrow windy roads. It's an easier drive, but the original way from Tapah has it's charm and is scenic.

Wonderful staff who made our 3-day stay memorable
We took the overnight bus from Singapore, and it was such a joy to reach the hotel and collapse onto the comfy couches in the lobby. The beautiful Tudor-style building and its gorgeous garden has been lovingly-maintained to retain its charm. The staff are attentive, but not intrusive. It was such a pleasant experience to chat with them when we needed to get taxis, arrange a meal, book tours, borrow umbrellas, or get suggestions on where to explore. Although meals outside the hotel are much more affordable, we did have daily breakfast, and we also experienced teatime scones, dinner and drinks by the fireplace during our stay. All meals were superb and prepared with pride. In fact, even if you're not staying at this hotel, do pop by for the delicious scones with jam and cream. The location is a perfect getaway from the big city hustle and bustle. We like walks, and the cool weather made it nice to stroll to nearby Brinchang and Tanah Rata - both around 15-20 mins away in opposite directions. Other places close by include the weekend night market (around 5 mins walk), and a little village Kampong Taman Sedia (around 10 mins walk) where there's some awesome nasi lemak and strawberry sambal at the 200 Seeds Cafe.

The hotel is really cute and nice, the staff are lovely and helpful. Arranged for us to go on a few tours and also gave us an upgrade! The food is all Western and are at normal western prices - we went into Tanah Rata for dinner and found some really nice spots. Taxi from Tanah Rata to the smokehouse is about 10 RM or it is a 20-30 min walk
