Pleasant enough for an overnight stay

Posted 19-Feb-2017
Pros: Location, ambience, staff, breakfast, pillows!
Cons: The walls of our room were no barrier to noise from neighbours!
Location: For our purposes, it was close enough for an inexpensive taxi ride to a great local restaurant
A nice enough hotel in a very convenient location. We were lucky enough to find an available space in the small car park (£15 per night). The staff immediately made us feel welcome and looked after us throughout our stay. Our ground floor room (003) was nicely decorated and, although small, was comfortable and fine for our short stay. The choice of pillows was a nice touch as was the use of an iPad to search for and order services. On the flip side, our morning started a couple of hours earlier than planned due to the noise from the adjoining room. The connecting door was no barrier to the noise of talking and hairdryer. An additional minor gripe was there was only one bath towel provided which was not ideal for two of us. Another was provided but only after I twice had to leave the room to ask at reception. Thankfully a fantastic breakfast soon restored us and left us with an overall favorable impression of a well run hotel.

Great Hotel

Posted 06-Feb-2017
I really enjoyed staying at this comfortable and clean hotel. Except for some obsolete information on the Expedia site regarding free parking, which the hotel still honoured, everything was as described. The hotel is close to Cambridge Centre and opposite wide open spaces. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

Good hotel for weeken in Cambridge

Posted 06-Feb-2017
The hotel is a very close walk to the centre of Cambridge. We had free parking although apparently they will be charging for this going forward. Nice clean rooms and a turning down service in the evening - where chocolates are left on your pillow! The staff were friendly and helpful. Only one slight criticism is that the room was a little noisy as it faced on to a busy room. The doors are a little thin so we could hear everything in the corridors. But overall would recommend this hotel.

Another pleasant stay at the Gonville

Posted 16-Jan-2017
We stay at the Gonville regularly when visiting Cambridge as it is always welcoming and very comfortable. The breakfast is beautiful with a good range of high quality hot and cold choices. At the moment the hotel does not run a loyalty scheme which would be welcome to me as a frequent visitor for discounts and upgrades as offered in other hotels.

Very pleasantly surprised

Posted 30-Dec-2016
A lot of hotels in provincial cities aren't very good. We were staying overnight for a wedding and I thought this was a really good hotel. Well fitted out, good location, nice staff, good atmosphere. My immediate reaction was very positive. To the extent that I was thinking about reviewing it and looking for the negatives: not much, but they were - lift judders on take-off and hadn't been swept recently, hot water takes a long time to com through. The best hotel I've stayed in in UK for a long time.

Sumptuous, Elegant and comfortable

Posted 21-Nov-2016 on Hotels
Really nice elegant hotel in the heart of cambridge, within easy reach of everything. Very comfortable, beautiful building and lovely decor. Service impeccable. The breakfast was a slight disappointment, but only minor, in that the sausages and bacon were not good quality and fairly tasteless, but everything else was fabulous.
