Bad room cleanliness

Posted 06-Aug-2015
Pros: The breakfast was lovely and the staff friendly
Cons: Cleaners should check bedroom drawers Offers not available should not be displayed B&B guests be able to book evening meals if tables available
Location: Duxford imerial war museum American war cemetery Cambridge
We found a dirty spoon in one drawer and a dirty knife in another. The shower cubicle was dirty and the magnetic door closure was torn. There was a sign at reception stating upgrades were available. When we asked to update we were told none were available that evening. We continued to check in and it was not until I suggested that the sign was removed that it was taken away. We were told that as we had booked for bed and breakfast no table was available in the dining room for USA to have an evening meal until 8:45 but that the kitchen closed at 9:30. Not much use there then we may have just about finished our starter when we would have had to leave! We ate in the bar and noticed that the restaurant was by no means full on either evening. We therefor presumed that the kitchens were too busy with the wedding party to serve hotel guests.

Should not be rated 4* !!

Posted 21-Jul-2015
Pros: Nothing
Cons: As above
This hotel is in serious need of updating, how this can be classed as a 4* hotel is a joke. The room was appalling, very dirty, dusty etc. We even had poo left on the toilet brush from the previous occupiers. Table, window sill and side tables were dusty. Bathroom had numerous stains every where etc. Breakfast service was disgraceful, they cannot seem to notice when the buffet selection is running low and you therefore have to wait 10 minutes for them to cook more. Not great when you have to get to meetings ! The chairs in our room had stains on it and the fabric was thinning in places. There is no air conditioning just a rubbish fan which makes the room very hot. The swimming pool changing rooms are disgusting, not clean, no toilet paper, cob webs etc obviously does not get checked hourly ! And when we arrived there was no soap in the room to wash you hands as the delivery was stuck in Calais !!! The only plus point is the friendly staff !! Such a shame as this could be made such a nice hotel but needs some money spent on it.

The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, particularly in recovering a piece of luggage we left behind!

Nice hotel but needs some updating

Posted 02-Jul-2015
Nice hotel but could do with some updating. Bathroom vent was very dusty looked like it had never been cleaned. Shower could have been cleaned better. No air conditioning in the rooms just a pathetic floor fan that hardly worked. Bed was comfortable. Food was very good and staff were very friendly.

Pros: Everything
We were a hen party visiting Newmarket and we cant fault this hotel in any way shape or form. They were amazing from start to finish. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, very clean, lovely breakfast, nothing was too much trouble for them.

Not sure

1. First room we were sent to when after checking in looked like someone was already using; crisp packets everywhere, bottled water on a desk, sheets turned over and had a damp shower smell 2. Pool was kept very untidy - towels all over the chairs, so, didn't know where we could sit 3. The whole pool (quite small) was taken up by people doing lanes, so, couldn't really enjoy that - few spa based hotels have specific times when you can do lanes and when you can't that way everyone is happy

Very attractive country hotel

Posted 29-Apr-2015
Pros: as above
Cons: If they could find a taxi cab service that doesn't charge £9 for a 2 minute drive!!
Just an overnight visit, but we found the staff and the accommodation excellent and set in lovely surroundings.

Nice clean spa hotel

Posted 28-Apr-2015 on Hotels
This hotel has lots of positives about it; the rooms are spacious and clean with good quality products, it has a great pool, gym and spa. The bar is spacious with plenty of rooms off if you prefer to seek out somewhere a little quiter. The hotel can be full of weddings and hen parties at weekends but this has never spoilt my stay. However, whilst the food in the restaurant is good, service is very poor. It's difficult to get a table at weekends even with a room reservation. On check in we were told they had 6.30 or 9.15. At 9.15 we tried to get into the restaurant only to be told it wasn't possible as they were shutting in ten minutes! This wouldn't be such an issue but the hotel is in the middle of nowhere (on the edge of a brand new housing estate with only a Morrisons for company, if you're wanting to visit central Cambridge, this place is not for you.) Breakfast on a Sunday morning is similarly poor, nowhere near enough staff (they try their hardest), half the food is always missing and ordering coffee or tea is virtually impossible. I would suggest that the hotel make this self service too and focus on keeping the food flowing. The restaurant should be able to cope, even when the hotel is full.
