Having previously lived in the area The Quay Mill has a luxury reputation which is reflected in it pricing. We were back visiting for a wedding a decided to ‘Treat’ ourselves with a 2 night stay. Whilst the grounds are beautiful and the leisure facilities are good (Although the jacuzzi was out of order), we found overall our stay fell below our expectations. The pillows in our room were terrible and the replacements that eventually arrived from housekeeping were not much better. return had accessed the room to replace the pillows but didn’t top up tea/coffee or replace dirty cups. We paid for breakfast our first morning, but it was very chaotic with hot breakfast orders being muddled between tables (having waited a long while for it). At no point were we checked on by waiting staff -offered additional drinks etc. And the continental buffet was not being topped up (not apple or orange juice topped up in the hour we were there). So decided to head to The Pantry, nearby in Newmarket the following morning. None of these things are deal breakers and would have been written off had we been staying at a budget chain. Sadly I don’t think we would return for the price we paid.

The staff members, from reception to dining, were friendly but completely untrained and inept in customer service. Example: when we arrived early and asked to check in, we were told we were too early. There was no explanation for when we might be able to check in. At the bar-area restaurant there was haphazard table service. We had to keep asking for cutlery, serviettes, etc. The property itself needs upgrading, and cleanliness was not where it should be. When I told reception that our room was clean but hadn’t been vacuumed, there was very little response. The spa was similarly average. The flotation treatment was relaxing (it felt like lying still in an inflated hammock with an eye pillow on) but there was next to no massage, so I felt the description was misleading. When this was raised, there was no answer from staff. The staff all seem apathetic, like they’re just barely coping, and the lack of management can really be felt.

The lunch, dinner and breakfast at this hotel could not be faulted. A varied menu is available and the food was delicious. The Water Mill restaurant is a charming location for an intimate lunch or romantic dinner. The Bar Manager, Peter Gebura was charming and went out of his way to make us feel both welcome and well attended. However, some areas of the hotel are in need of both maintenance and updating. Further attention should also be paid to room cleaning. In our case, the walk-in shower should have received more work. The hotel was by no means busy during our visit and there therefore did not appear any excuse for not cleaning the shower room properly.

we stayed in room 7 in the main building past the breakfast room and up the stairs a good size room with a good size bathroom that was a bit cold it had two sinks the first one blocked it drained slow the shower head had to be held in place or it would keep falling down the toilet you have too keep pumping the handle to get a full flush and the tv timer was set two hours a head so you could not use the TV guide I did mention it to reception but nothing can be done on the weekend no maintenance people there are the thing I would expect to find in a motorway service lodge when paying £55 pound a night not at a hotel like this where you pay £150 plus a night NOT GOOD ENOUGH

There was a huge amount of dust built up behind the tv it was disgusting and made me sneeze . You could hear every vehicle that drive by the other side of the window . Not worth the price at all . Dirty carpet , dirty chair . I would not recommend at all

Was pretty awful to be honest abd if you are gluten free or coeliac dont come here, rooms werent that warm either still had to wear jumper in bed. Spa was nice and nice staff there, no gluten free mains depsite me asking before i went and checking turns out they changed their menu 2 days before not inclusive at all and they also served me a salad covered in barley, really poor from a food point of view m

Nice hotel missed the turning to start with!!,I booked an executive double room extras that were included were big flat screen TV and private hot tub,neither of which existed in this room!!,not sure who’s at fault the actual hotel or hotels.com. The evening meal took 40 minutes to arrive and was Luke warm and some of it cold,they were very busy but for how expensive it is the food was slow and cold.

Good stay, nice and quiet, the spa was wonderful, great opening times and bever to busy. Pool, jaquzzi, steam room, sauna and gym all free to use by guests! This is definately the best part. Room was nice and clean but could do with being updated and freshened up if you are picky but was warm, comfortable and quiet for our two night stay. Didnt eat at the hotel so cannot comment but what we saw looked nice. Overall pleasant stay and would stay again

Welcomed on arrival by reception. Room was roomy but very cold. Could do with a refurb and sealing the windows in the main house to stop drafts. Dinner was lovely but breakfast was very poor. Coffee was dreadful! Food not very appealing at all.

Only stayed as i was at a Christmas dinner event. Pre ordered the menu. I'm a vegan and they had 3 months notice. I was given bacon soup, something in a cream sauce and then the cheese plates Would i come again. No! Not just coz of the food but also the atmosphere. The bat was 19:00- 01:00. They closed the bar 12:00. Not for me again! This cost £75 ! Waste of money! Ll

Ordered strawberry eton mess with shards of merengue it came as a hard basket full of raspberries that I detest, mains were delicious, as I had no desert tried to order room service later on only to be told they had closed even though menu in room said it was available until 10pm this was at 9pm. Fire alarm went off at 3:45 for about 10 seconds.

Wonderful friendly staff, I felt so welcome. The facilities on site are fantastic, lots of options and lovely walks nearby in the countryside. The room was very clean, comp tea/coffee/biscuits /water, didn’t need anything more. A perfect escape.

Had a lovely stay here last night. The staff were amazing and the lamb we had for dinner was the best lamb we’ve ever had. The gym and spa were brilliant too. We will definitely be back.
