Wander through this quaint village preserved as it was in the early 20th century to learn about the president who grew up here.

The Calvin Coolidge Historic Site is the birthplace and former home of the 30th president of the United States. The complex includes many houses of the president’s family and friends in the quaint village of Plymouth Notch. See the family homestead and scenic grounds where Coolidge was raised to learn about his life and his importance to the country.

Make your way around the 600-acre (240-hectare) site that includes the hillside cemetery where Coolidge is buried. Visit the Union Christian Church, the Florence Cilley General Store and the cheese factory, among several other structures. Most buildings in this site contain original furnishings and décor to depict the village as it was in the early 20th century.

Enter the President Calvin Coolidge Museum and Education Centre for the various exhibits chronicling his rise from this charming hamlet to the top job in the country. Find out about the president, who was born here in 1872 and inaugurated to the presidency in 1923. He is said to have been an elegant, shrewd and humorous man.

Hike on the East Meadow Nature Trail and the Old Cellar Hole Walking Trail, using maps from boxes at the start of each circuit. The trails offer spectacular views of the rolling hills that make up the Vermont countryside.

Browse the many items and souvenirs in the two gift shops in the complex. They contain biographies, jewellery and craft items. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at the Wilder House Restaurant.

There is a fee to enter the site, with a large discount for kids and families. Children under 6 years have free admission. The site opens daily from morning until late afternoon.

The Calvin Coolidge Historic Site is in the heart of Plymouth Notch in the western part of Vermont. It stands in a fairly rural area between Coolidge State Forest and Coolidge State Park. Visit nearby Camp Plymouth State Park and the Farm & Wilderness Foundation.
