"Renovated historic hotel in Cagliari city centre"
This historic hotel has been renovated in keeping with the atmosphere and taste of the original: a delightful mix of exquisite modern and reproduction antique furniture, painting, sculpture, objets d'art, and glass alongside thoroughly modern convenience and comfort in the communal areas. The dining-room is a neo-Baroque symphony of yellow, cream and brick-red. Gorgeous! Because of the renovation, however, some of the rooms, such as ours, are on a mezzanine with no direct lift connection, and the room overlooked a central well and courtyard of adjacent properties. This wasn't a huge issue for us, though, as we usually occupied the room only from dusk to dawn - as a convenient base from which to explore the city and wider environs - but, in daylight, it meant the view wasn't fantastic and it tended to be quite dark. It is, however, astonishingly easy to find: barely a couple of hundred yards from both railway and bus stations, and slap-bang in the middle of the historic centre of Cagliari. For the rate that was offered us, the room was most reasonable: comfortable with well appointed bathroom, sheets and towels changed every day. The staff at reception were most helpful as was the breakast tea-and-coffee waiter: a real gem! Maid service was thoroughly efficient: rooms were always clean and sparkling.
Breakfasts were very good indeed, even if the best time for bread and cake is early: the white rolls, for example and a terrific wholemeal, wholegrain bread were hot.
