Stayed with a family member for a week. We had 2 different rooms and both enjoyed our stay. Hotel is comparatively simple, quiet and right on the beach. It's safe and the staff is friendly. Andres makes great morning coffee + breakfast and helps get taxis and answers questions (in Spanish.)
The garden is kept incredibly neat and tidy. Walking around barefoot is no problem. Lovely experience.
AguaLina is small (only 25 rooms) but the rooms are modern and all rooms have wonderful ocean views. The cleaning staff mopped our floors every day. The room was clean and bug free. There is a wonderful restaurant/bar on site called VACABAR which is an open air tiki bar directly on the beach. This hotel is likely the best deal on Kite Beach (keep in mind it's 3 miles from Carabete center). The only down side is that there is a busy road in front of all the Kite Beach Hotels, but there is no road noise inside the rooms or on the beach. I would gladly return to AguaLina on a future visit.
(Ask for a 5 gallon bottle of water when you check in... Water in Carabete is not safe for travelers to drink)
It is in a gated community between Sosa and Cabaerete called Perla Marina. It is a couple of minutes walk to the private beach. No vendors. No people bothering you for money. If you are not looking to do the tourist thing but just want to relax, this is the place for you. Breakfast and wifi are extra. If you want lunch and dinner we went to another hotel's restaurant called Natura Cabanas but it was pricey. The room is a studio but it is clean. The bed is comfortable. The pillows are small. We brought extra. They have a small fridge and a two burner stove top. The kitchen cabinets have plates cups utensils pans etc. There is a grocery store in the community and a cheaper one across the street. The security guards at the gate are friendly and answered all my questions. You are totally safe within the community. Security is constantly patrolling. The hotel has a small but clean pool. Janos is better at English and Bettina is better at spanish. Janos is excellent at emailing you back quickly. I will definitely return. By far the best hotel I have been in the Dominican Republic.
Cabarete is a small town on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, about 20 minutes from the international airport. The reef at the bay’s entrance, backdrop of low-lying hills, and the prevailing direction of the trade winds combine to make the town a mecca for windsurfers, kite-surfers, and other water sports enthusiasts. Cabarete also has a great beach for sunbathing.
