The Palermo Soho area is such a great place to stay to experience BA and be around so many shops, restaurants, bars, and parks within walking distance. The Selina Palermo is like a hostel but still has private rooms, so even though we got our privacy we still had the benefit of being in a place with a downstairs bar, meeting other travelers, enjoying the DJ sets. We were able to rent bikes from Selina to explore the city. The staff are extremely rude and unhelpful, even at basic interactions like check-in. The property is falling apart. For example, the toilets don’t flush properly and you have to disassemble it every time to get it to flush. The selling point was the rooftop but they had it closed two of the four days we were there. There is no coworking space, so I had to work in their café/bar area, where loud music and constant foot traffic made it impossible to work properly. Both my bathroom and the kitchen had leaks, causing flooding and creating a safety hazard. My door had a faulty lock, which meant my roommates and I had to struggle for several minutes every time we tried to open it. The kitchen was equipped with extremely old and dirty utensils, the trash was not taken out frequently and smelled bad, there were no cups available until guests had to ask for them, and cutlery was often in short supply due to the limited number of pieces.
