This is a charming boutique hotel with 18th-19th century detail centraly located in Bruges. The staff was attentive and helpful. Check in and check out was easy. The swimming pool is small but refreshing. Our room was a suite which was quiet and comfortable. The hotel is centrally situated with easy walking access everywhere in Bruges and about 10 min taxi from train station. The view of the central canal was beautiful. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay (family of 4, two children).

Elegant Gem
Ideally situated, this hotel is a little different to the standard fair. All the staff were extremely helpful and informative, giving really good recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the elegant Versailles styled piano room and the pool/sauna area was delightful too.

Hotel Die Swaene is a true gem in the heart of Bruges. It captures the character of the city with its old fashioned decor & furniture. For those who give a low rating, you have to realise that this is how it supposed to be and to modernise it would spoil it. We were made to feel welcome & we were shown around the hotel before getting to our canal view room. Everything was comfortable, especially the bed, and the bathroom was fantastic (this has been modernised). There was a mini bar in the room & Nespresso coffee machine. Plenty of room & very comfortable. The hotel is located centrally & is just a short walk to all of the tourist attractions, bars & restaurants. I would highly recommend for couples looking for a romantic hotel to stay in.

Brilliant Bruges break
Fabulous location right in the heart of the city, canal right out the front of the building and minutes walk from the main sights, many great local restaurants and bars to chose from, just take cash as card is not always accepted. Hotel had very characterful rooms and super helpful and friendly staff. I will certainly recommend this hotel to both friends and colleagues.

Very good value for the price.
Within walking distance of everything except train station. Room had canal view, all the amenities you need, very good breakfast buffet, but most of all, the staff here are INCREDIBLE. The hotel itself, could use a little facelift, but I´d stay here again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent staff! Polite, and directed us to several good restaurants. Hotel is being renovated but only doing it when guests are not present. The location is amazing, we had a lovely view, and it has a pool which I did not expect. Coffee in the room would have been wonderful and that is my only feedback in the area for improvement. We stayed two nights, and really enjoyed the time and hotel.

Highly recommend!
The only thing more impressive than the beauty of the hotel is the friendliness of the staff. You’re only a 5 minute walk from the main squares and the surrounding area is very picturesque.

Booked this hotel in Bruge because it was on the canal, great reviews and boutique feel it appears to show in the pictures. Hotel is very old, in a historical sense and that adds character. I believe the hotel owner told be it was the Tailors guild at one point so there is a very ornate room on the first floor, almost a ballroom that is now used for a lounge. While there was nothing catastrophically wrong with our room, there were some issues that had to be overcome. There are areas of the hotel that you can see the owners spending money upgrading and it shows. The bathroom and shower were updated and nice but the room had a very small TV and no working phone. One night we got back to the hotel and wanted to shower after a long day of walking around town and found no hot water. Was told at the front desk that there wouldn't be any hot water until tomorrow, no notice was given, no message warning us to the issue. Pool was just refinished as was still warming up when er arrived, I enjoyed a "refreshing swim", but I could not convince my wife to join. Great hotel with a ton of history in an amazing location, but if you want sparkle and swanky this might leave you wanting. We enjoyed our stay and have nothing bad to say about the hotel.

The hotel is not 1 hotel but 2 hotels about 50m apart and across the river. I had to book another night and it was not clear anywhere that this was the case so we had a stay in one hotel and then had to move to the other. The first hotel (not the one shown in the photo) had a very large, nicely decorated and quiet room but no view. The window opened into a small area that then joined onto the indoor pool (which was closed and being mended) and builders could look into our room so we often kept the curtains closed. The staff were polite. I thought there would be a hairdryer (there was one in the other half of the hotel). The other half of the hotel (in photo) had a lovely view of the river and the room was very nicely decorated. Bar staff very polite. Room had lourve doors to the bathroom though (toilet was separate near the room entrance). You had to go to the loo then come out and then go onto the bathroom to wash your hands. It was impossible going to the bathroom at night without waking the other person up by flooding them with light. The doors also banged loudly when people went through them and this could be heard from all the other rooms when the other occupants used their bathroom. The bar attached to the hotel had a stair right outside our door and people were constantly going up and down the stairs until the bar closed around 11-11.30. Basically it was very noisy at times and disturbed our sleep. If you wanted breakfast you had to go across to the first hotel.

Dear Sir, Madam, The hotel has in fact 2 different buildings but this is no longer the case, any guest booking at Die Swaene will have a room in the main building where for the moment we are doing our utmost to upgrade the hotel, meaning with some work going on such as renovating the swimmingpool and sauna, renovating some rooms and bathrooms, etc. this all necessary to improve the hotel and to make sure that our guests have an outstanding stay at Die Swaene ! Quaint and historic hotel with so much character and interestingly styled rooms - all different and most overlook the prettiest canal in Bruges. Much nicer than the bigger and bland hotels. Very warm welcome from the staff, nothing too much trouble. Has a nice restaurant and a small pool which has just been refurbished. Also a beautiful first floor lounge for a quiet afternoon drink in glamorous 18th century surroundings. Will definitely be coming back.

Nice hotel very close to the centre and with parking available. The room was cozy, clean with a nice canal view. Our bed was 2 beds put next to each other, which isn’t the best and not the most comfortable

inaccurate hotel description
swimming pool and leisure facilities were not available during our stay. we were not informed of this at booking. After paying a premium for extra facilities we were very disappointed to not have them available. We would not have booked this hotel if given accurate description. Wifi was also terrible as others have mentioned.

This is a legendary, old, hotel. My room felt like I was staying at Grandma's or the King's old castle. Truly romantic and charming in an old world way. The perfect match to the old world of Bruges directly outside. The photo of the canal is legit and directly out the door! The 25Euro breakfast is expensive but honestly is a high class deal with all the top food, drink, etc. Lastly- Front Desk man Bart was a highlight of my trip. He greeted me like an old friend and laid out the ultimate trip plan, with notes on my map, a 2 hour walking tour guide (for free with your room which felt like a $50 euro value), etc. etc. I'll be back.

Our window opened out toward the canal and the peaceful grey morning. Our room was warm and cozy and comfortable, and the breakfast was divine. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the lounge but Bruges called us away! The staff was incredibly helpful, too, allowing us to leave our bags after checkout to explore a bit more before we had to leave town. Beautiful!

This was our first time in Bruges. Lovely boutique hotel right by the canal. Our room was very roomy and beautifully decorated. Bathroom very clean. Hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming. Only downside was that the pool was cold and the double bed was in fact two twin beds pushed together. Other than that we loved our stay and would definitely come again.

You can’t beat the location and charm of the place. The only negative point I would say was the bathroom. It needed some TLC from heating controls (it was very hot) to water pressure in shower.

The hotel is very rundown I am sure it should to be very beautiful but it’s not taken care of. It’s not a comfortable hotel to stay. Pool area very rundown aswell, smell of mold and lack of hospitality. Star should not be 4 or 5 as some state.
