Upon arrival we were given a double room, after asking for a twin, (2males) no twins available. The room was small and characterless, it was about the same as a travel lodge room, not what was expected of a castle venue. Corporate and clinical. We were informed that the main restaurant would be closing earlier the advertised, and the courtyard, was not opening. We dined in the main restaurant, finding the menu overpriced, and a totally uninspiring choice available. The only grace to our experience was the redeeming breakfast service, which was of a good standard and plentiful. There were various cleaning issues related to the room ie: shower head was covered in a residue, pubic hairs on the bed linens, cobwebs visible, no toilet brush in the bathroom, a distinct lack of any toiletries provided........ standards that are associated with a 4star establishment. All in all, totally deflating experience. I work in a 5* environment, so have the knowledge of what customers deserve and expect. The staff looked disheveled, and unkempt.
