Good with room for improvement

Posted 21-Aug-2017
Pros: I love the location. It's near excellent restaurants, shopping, the theater, and a great jazz club, Birdland.
Cons: The quality of the rooms should be consistently excellent.
I've always been pleased with this Sofitel- the well appointed, cozy lobby, the attention to details, the staff who aim to please, lovely rugs and corridors with interesting modern art, and spacious rooms that look and feel appealing with clean lines. However, this go around, the room was very awkwardly laid-out. The TV obscured the beautiful mirror that was suck behind. The bed was so close to the closets that you could barely open the closet, and there was only enough room for one person to scoot along the side of the bed to get to the closet. That was absurd! There was a little step up to walk into the bathroom, which I tripped over several times. Only one of the double doors to the bathroom would stay open, so we were constantly trying to slither through half the doorway, as the other half would slam closed each time we opened it. What a pain! The towel rack and hook to hang lingerie or bathrobe were both directly behind the toilet. I decided not to risk having my things fall in the toilet. I hope the problem was limited to that room, but given the price of staying at the Sofitel, I was terribly disappointed.

Great Hotel

Posted 21-Aug-2017
Even though we only stayed one night we would recommend this hotel to anyone. One thing you might want to note however is that our GPS took us to the back of the building which meant we ended up using a parking garage a block or so away not realizing there was valet parking around the block. Note this was a minor inconvenience and didn't detract from the quality of the hotel at all.

Third Stay and Never Disappointed

Posted 20-Aug-2017
Pros: Great location in midtown. Beautiful hotel overall. As it is a French chain there are lots of French influences. Delicious room service menu.
Cons: We wished there was a day spa. Cocktails were a little pricey - most we have ever paid for a Cosmopolitan although they were excellent!
Location: Walking distance to Fifth Avenue shopping, Times Square, Broadway. Fairly short taxi ride to Central Park and numerous museums.
Although this hotel is a little pricey, it is well worth it. We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and pamper ourselves while at the same time enjoy as much of Manhattan as we had time for that we had not seen yet. We of course saw a Broadway musical, visited Rockefeller Centre, spent a day shopping, and a day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (although you need a week to explore this museum properly - it is huge and fascinating). I hope to return for a 4th time and will definitely stay at the same hotel.

Great hotel in mid-town

Posted 19-Aug-2017
Pros: Clean, quiet, nicely appointed, large rooms, great bathrooms...
Location: Times Square is three blocks away - need I say more?
A great hotel with a Eurpoean flair, but American sized rooms and amenities. Within short walking distance to Times Square, yet, on a quiet street.

Wonderful Hotel and Staff

Posted 19-Aug-2017
Pros: Everything
Cons: Perhaps a little faster service in the restaurant.
Booked the hotel having seen excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. Loved the Art Deco feel and the staff went out of their way to make the holiday a great experience. Will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful hotel

Posted 18-Aug-2017
Pros: Location and decor
Cons: Costs of parking
Location: Junior's restaurant and Madame Toussad should be on everyone's to-do-list
Great location. Close to restaurants and entertainment. Doorman and staff were very polite and professional. It would have been fabulous if parking was complimentary.

Beautiful Hotel

Posted 17-Aug-2017
This hotel was phenomenal. I've stayed in much pricier hotels and was very impressed with the staff, the room accommodations and overall location. Sofitel is close to Times Square (2 blocks), Fifth Avenue shopping and Rockefeller Center. The staff at the hotel will provide directions, maps and even make dinner reservations. If I come to NYC again I will definitely stay at the Sofitel.
