No lift and no air conditioning, fan was broken. It was listed as a 4 star but more like a 2. Shower was not a shower but a hand held with no place to hang it that did not drown the bathroom. Room and bathroom were extremely tiny.

hello karen.sorry that your stay did not give you complete satisfaction.the hotel was never a 4 star as you claim but a 2 star.it is clearly indicated by the accessibility article on the site and the photos that access to the rooms is only via a staircase. No air conditioning is mentioned but fans in all rooms. it took me 5 minutes to replace the fan socket and it works very well. too bad you didn't mention this problem on the first day of your stay. have a nice day

The property location was excellent, however the room smelled terrible. There could be a sewage issue in the building. We returned to our room after a morning walk to find Staff in our room prior to checkout removing bed linens & beginning cleanup for next guests. We had to request they leave so we could pack our belongings.

Spent one night here, superb location in city centre, several cafes on doorstep and only a short walk to the heart of the main eating and drinking action. Also v easy to get to all the sights, right beside tram. Room simple but clean and really v friendly owner who was very welcoming.would recommend.

I like the location. It is close to the historic town, restaurants and shops. I did not like that there is no elevator to go up to the room and there is no AC. You will have a small fan. The room was very clean and the lady at the lobby was nice.

Great location, friendly staff, good value. However the room was very small, and it is up several flights of stairs which might be an issue for some people. Breakfast was indifferent and you can better for less (and more atmosphere) in any local café.

The location is very good. Bordeaux is an expensive destination for hotels. This hotel though cheaper is over priced. The room was extremely small, no drawer space, tiny ineffective hanging space. A dated but acceptable shower room. There has been no effort to make even a cheap upgrade of facilities in the room

Pros: Amazing location. Super duper clean. Excellent staff. Excellent value for price. Cons: Shower ridiculously small and no soundproofing in room but luckily on a quiet street and no noisy neighbours. Overall excellent and would stay there again without hesitation.

This hotel couldn’t be in a better location. The hotel and room were very clean. The shower was just wayyy too small. Could barely fit in the shower. But great water pressure and hot water.

The hotel location is perfect, the room is quiet, small but cosy, the breakfast quality is good and there’s even green tea without mint, quite rare in France in cafes, restaurants or hotel.

A 2 star in a very central position
This hotel is very clean, simple, and in a central position, surrounded by expensive shops, yards away from tram line B. The staff, whilst being very friendly, and helpful, speak almost no English. The buffet, at E 8, extra, is sufficient. I think that it is pitched at provincial French, and businessmen, who just need a quick, inexpensive, overnight stay. There is no lift, just a staircase which leads up to the first two floors, which, also, seems to double as the emergency exit.

Small hotel with great value breakfast
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel de France, the hotel is very well located and the staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast provided was the best value breakfast I found across all of France and the room was neat and tidy. Rooms are up 2 or 3 flights of stairs, so you need to be fit and healthy.

Centrally located convenient hotel
as it is centrally located I could easily walk to many places, then come back, have a bit of nap then go out again. I took two different winery tours so the meeting point was always at the central touring information office, which was about 5 mins walk. It was great. Very convenient BUT the room was very small. My room had two single beds but I could not have any place to do push ups and crunches on the floor, it was that small. all in all, it was tidy and clean, simple, nothing special but had everything I needed, and great location so I could definitely use it again. If you don't expect anything fancy, then highly recommended.

This is a great place to stay if you want to be right in the center of Bordeaux. The rooms are small but have everything you need. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is no elevator so it is a bit of a lug if you are on the top floor. Good value.

Great Place to Stay!
This hotel is very clean and the location is great! It is in the middle of a big shopping area in downtown Bordeaux, but it is not near any loud restaurants or bars, so it is very quiet at night. The staff were patient with us because we didn't speak French and they only spoke some English; they were very helpful! Our room had two small beds and a nice clean bathroom. It was small by American standards, but average size for the French hotels I have stayed at. It had plenty of room for the two of us. The shower was tiny (big enough for me because I am small) but it was very clean, which I find more important. The breakfast costs 8 Euro and was WELL worth it! They gave us a good discount at a nearby parking lot for our rental car; something I was unsure of heading into Bordeaux with a car. The price was very reasonable for what you get here, great value!

The Hotel de France was in an excellent location, very close to the beautiful sights in the old quarter. As a result, however, it was very noisy. Since our room had no air conditioning, we had to keep the window open which let in all the noise. However, the room was very clean and the hotel staff were incredibly lovely and helpful. Overall, would recommend and return - but bring earplugs.

Essentials covered really well
A lovely little family run hotel. Twin room on the first floor which perfectly suited our needs, compact but with everything we required. If you want to spend lots of time in a hotel then this is not the place for you, but as a base where we went out and about from it was brilliant. Personally I don't think the breakfast is worth the €8 but it does set you up nicely for the day. There is a supermarket just round the corner which is perfect for picking up a packed lunch (we could see it out of our window). This is a great hotel if you are seeing Bordeaux on a budget and as long as you aren't expecting frills you won't be disappointed.

Simply French in a Great Location
In the center of Bordeaux by the Gambetta tram stop, this small French-style hotel is perfect for budget travelers who want a great location and small simple rooms. No elevator, so you'll be walking up steps frequently, but the couple that owns the place are very nice. The rooms are very small and clean. There aren't many hotels in this location and this is one of the least expensive, so good quality is pleasantly surprising.

Everything worked including WiFi in the room and the water pressure. Very clean, including carpets, walls and grout. I expected a small basic older room with a double bed and in a great location. It was that, but maintained well and overall good.

Great location on the edge of the old quarter. Our room was very small, but adequate for a short stay. Wifi service was intermittent. Breakfast provided for an extra 8 euros per person - was ok - the croissants and fresh fruit were not very fresh for example. We were able to leave our luggage after checkout, which was appreciated. Short walk to Quincones tram B stop to Gare St Jean.

I had a very nice time here. The staff were all very friendly. However, I didn't realize that there was no air conditioning, and I had no fan in my room. Other rooms had fans, but I was not at the hotel during the day to ask for one. Most of the year, this wouldn't be a problem, but I was there during a heat wave, and my room was rather warm at night. I also expected wi-fi so that I could check my email, but that was not available either. I think they only had cable internet.
