The island itself is beautiful, the plants and foliage were amazing. The location of the island is exceptional and there were five or six baby with sharks swimming 10 feet offshore throughout our stay. There is many coral reefs in the area so No need to spend extra money booking a snorkeling trip, just bring your snorkel and fins. The rooms themselves could use a little maintenance but we’re comfortable. Unfortunately the layout of the resort offers very little privacy because all of the bungalows are close together With the outdoor areas all visible to each other. My husband and I had to be careful because our ocean view bungalow was directly behind the overwater bungalows and they could look right through our balcony into our bedroom if we didn’t have the black out curtains closed all the way. Being a small boutique resort with only 33 Bungalows they could utilize the space so much better. The staff did not speak very good English which made it difficult to communicate at times. The food was mediocre with exuberant pricing and the staff was visibly unhappy when we declined not to eat at the restaurant. The boat shuttle that takes you across to the mainland was convenient and even if we showed up at a time that wasn’t scheduled they made sure we got back to the resort within a short period of time.

The Sofitel Private Motu is one the most beautiful and intimate places to stay on Bora Bora. This was my third time there and loved every minute! My new husband and I celebrated our honeymoon at the Sofitel and made some incredible memories thanks to the staff, the natural beauty and the ideal weather and water!

A magical place on a private island where your first step on and last step off will be memorable as you are greeted with warmth and music. The main resort is closed for renovation, if it were open it might have added pool, spa, shops, a distant view of the private island that we were staying on...

What I love hotel, Staff was great , my room was clean, and Free boat shuttle. What needs improvement , food (should e different selection of breakfast every). Nightly entertainment . Update rooms . Better selection for lunch & dinner . Activities during day ( bora bora dancing lessons ), how to make baskets , pool table. And more beach activities . I was told by Expedia I would be able to use the pool at the other Sofitel hotel and that was. Not true , the sister hotel was under construction .

Absolutely amazing experience
The island is perfectly remote and the service was to notch. The staff really makes you feel at home and you get the personal touch, unlike some of the larger chain hotels. Couldn't be happier with our stay.

The Sofitel Bora Bora Private Island was a dream come true. There is no better location in Bora Bora: views of the lagoon and Mount Otemanu, proximity to the Coral Gardens (which saves you on an expedition), and free trasnportation to the main island...you can't beat this. In addition, the overwater bungalows are exquisitely furnished. Although the weather and salt water can be damaging to structures, the management has done a great job maintaining the facilities. Lastly, the staff is superb. They were like family and made our vacation uniquely special. Thank you Pipi, Tarita, conch/ukelele/bags/beach attendant guy, Front Office Manager, and all the rest of the staff.

Amazing place in paradise! We got an over water bungalow room, which was incredibly luxurious (on the expensive side too, but totally worth it). The hotel offers a quick boat shuttle to the main Bora Bora island, and the hotel and private island amenities are very nice. But our best experience was thanks to the loving and friendly staff here who treated us as if we were almost family. Would love to come back.

Absolutely loved our honeymoon at Sofitel in Bora Bora. Private island, perfect views, super caring staff, very clean, everything is so convenient, we couldn't have asked for more! Just like other travelers have mentioned - the resort needs some remodeling, but they have already begun the works on the main island resort. So, hopefully, the private island resort will be remodeled soon too. But it's still super clean and beautiful! highly recommend!

The close proximity to snorkeling and the availability of kayaks to explore was fabulous. We happened to go at a time when the Sofitel on the mainland was closed for renovations. This impacted us in that the usual water taxis were available only on a limited schedule, so we had to be very organized and very patient.

Unfortunately, a Disappointment
There is no denying that the private island is breathtakingly beautiful. We stayed at one of the overwater villas, and the condition of the unit itself was not bad. I will however note - our A/C barely worked, our mini fridge broke down and housekeeping would consistently run out of towels. If you are an English speaker, very few people on-site will be able to understand anything you are saying. The windows are also not sealed, meaning mosquitos will get in. You will also notice odd yellow stains on your sheets and towels. For a 5 star hotel, that is not acceptable. However, what really put us over the edge was the complete lack of service in the restaurant areas. The standard Sofitel was closed with no warning, which means the only places to eat were in their dining room or the bar area. The food is nearly inedible, and the hotel likes to routinely offer overpriced buffets. There is also barely enough food to call it a “buffet”. When we requested a la cart, we were told by one person to take a seat. Another person came by, told us a la carte was not offered and that we had to had to leave if we were not getting a buffet - which again, I found both unacceptable and actually embarrassing. I will note that on a different day, they were very accommodating. There is zero consistently. In my honest opinion, I would suggest splurging on the St. Regis than try to get a good deal at the Sofitel Private Island. Your trip will most likely be soured in some form during your stay.

The local Tahitian staff are really welcoming and kind. the surrounding lagoon is amazing,clear blue water to snorkel in, plenty of fish, the odd baby reef shark and occasional visit from sting rays. The room it’s self is good. No inside shower, only outside shower. No privacy, so keep that in mind. They have a shower hose attached to the bathtub but you have to hold it. Not really practical. I did not enjoy the manager of this resort who left my husband and I disappointed as he did not apologise for the mishap of our bags not arriving on time to the deck for us to catch our shuttle to the main island. He blamed his other staff, the worst part is that his solution was to call back the shuttle (which was already half way there to the main island) with its 8 or so passengers. They arrived evidently annoyed that the boat returned and verbally expressed this to my myself as if it was my fault the hotel didn’t have our bags ready to board at the allocated departure time. The manager offered no apology and we asked him to explain this matter to the rest of the passengers and he stood there looking dumbfounded. We were left to feel embarrassed. I have emailed the manager, Julien and to no avail. There were a few mishaps during our stay. We are a cruisy easy going couple but we couldn’t let all things slide! If you book this hotel make sure you get your monies worth, you definitely pay a lot and you expect to be treated fair.

Great hotel on a private island.Highly recommended
Amazing small hotel located on a private island. We will be coming back in a year or two, definitely. Overall we are very happy with our hotel choice at Bora Bora. Beautiful views and quiet. Great place to relax! Free mini bar in the rooms was a BIG plus. It's good to have enough water and drinks available in such hot and humid climate. Thanks Sofitel. For the complaints: WiFi is not very strong especially in overwater bungalows. However main complaint is restaurant. It should have much better menu selection for dinner. Hopefully Sofitel is going to make changes to dinner menu! Poor meat selection! Dinner menu needs improvements. Last thing is actually regarding jet-ski tour sold by Sofitel and organized by Matira Jet Company. Please AVOID at all cost taking a jet-ski tour from MATIRA JET. Pick up was late 15minutes, our guide was very rude (which made the whole paradise experience go to ***. The tour should be 2hrs, and we had only 1h 30min. It was too many jet-ski's which made difficult to keep the group together. On top of that we had 4 jet-ski's occupied with locals (probably owner friends - joining the tour for free). Unacceptable!!! Shame on the people running Matira jet. Stay away!!!! Overpriced and RUDE!

Nice area great staff. We stayed in a water bungalow was nice but dated. Clean though air conditioner broke and flooded room after that it didn’t stay very cool. Food at hotel was pricey and just medium. The breakfast that was included was very good at the private island.

In general ,it is great experience staying at this hotel ! We feel homey ,peaceful and relaxed here ! The only thing is that the management team or reservation team needs to do a better job at communicating with the customer !hotel provides complimentary airport pick up and breakfast buffet and flexible pick up and drop off to the main island,which can save you a plenty of money ! So if you are looking for a hotel that has great vaule,this is the one !In general ,it is a great place to stay at bora bora . We will definitely come back again !

Pros: Beautiful location. Wonderful to take the boat back and forth from the private island to the mainland. Waitresses were excellent. Over the water wood bungalows magical. Cons: had to change rooms because of ant infestation and termite problems. Broken shower handle, missing window covering slat which let in bugs, missing duvet in duvet cover. Recommendation is that the pestspraying and maintenance programs be enhanced. Wi-fi only available in reception, dining room and not in rooms. Need lounge chairs on all balconies.

If you are looking for a hotel in one of the best places in the world with a great staff, this is the one you are looking. We had a very good experience staying at the Sofitel Private Island. The breakfast food is good, and my recommendation is to be at the restaurant around 8:00 am, before the best is gone. The rooms are good size and clean, but they need some maintenance in the details like the shutters, curtains, the wood stain, and lounge chairs on the deck, but overall, they are in good shape and you will have beautiful views all day long. If you have little ones back at home like me, this is important to you, because the WiFi doesn’t work in most of the overwater bungalows, and you will have to go near the main building to get a good signal. Just as a note, you only have local channels and CNN on the TV, and no connection to the WiFi for the smart TV, so we grabbed a board game and a deck of cards from the lobby to have a good time in the windy/rainy day we had, instead of watching a movie. All the staff members are very friendly and helpful, always trying to make your stay more pleasant. I am very happy with my experience there.

We spent our honeymoon at Sofitel Private Island Bora Bora and truly enjoyed the views. Amenities were worth it for the options. Greeted us with a pearl, champagne in our room and flowers spread throughout. Very warm. The only downfall is there was only a bathtub with a shower hose and the tub wasn't enclosed for showering. I would opt for the lesser overwater bungalow if I had known there was not a shower. Other than that, our experience was very pleasing.

Three days in paradise
We had an amazing 3 days on the motu. What an experience! The staff couldn't have been more caring or friendly. The room was perfect, anything you would expect from such a resort. The location is superb and a 10min swim from one of the best snorkelling spots in Bora Bora. Due to the size of the resort and its layout, you'll rarely see more than 8-10 people around you at a given point. Perfect to enjoy peace and quiet. Breakfast is very good but the lunch and dinner food should be tastier for the price. I'd recommend having one dinner on the island and going to the other Sofitel on the main island (free 5min shuttle boat) for other dinners or trying out independent restaurants. The fact that the hotel is on its own private island ensures quietness and the free shuttle to the main island is a real advantage considering big resorts such as the Four Seasons etc. charge for this service.

Right when we arrived we were greeted with magazine worthy views, coconut water, and Tahitian singers. We were shown around by one of the sweetest and most hospitable girls I have ever met. The class and luxury the Sofitel exudes exceeded my expectations. There was something truly magical about being here. Now I have read some reviews saying that it's a bit run down. And I can honestly say I have no clue what they are talking about. The Sofitel private island offers an authentic and rustic feels while still very luxurious and high end. I stayed in room 127 which I think is the best one for diving from your patio and privacy. All of the overwater bungalows are magical and are worth the extra money, DO IT. The turn down service was very professional and quick. The beds, omg the BEDS! They were like a cloud! I cried a little upon our departure. This place will always forever hold a special place in my heart.

Small, secluded hotel with wonderful staff
Amazing views from the public spaces and private bungalows. Easily accessible to the mainland but nicely isolated. Friendly, helpful staff. Generous buffet breakfast. Great snorkeling on the private island including directly below the bungelows.

Overwater
This trip is for those who enjoy natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. It was very relaxing. This is NOT a place to go if you want to party. It is quiet. There were no kids on the private island when we stayed there. If you need to be entertained, you might want to look at a different venue.

A little piece of paradise
We had an awesome time at Sofitel. We went for our honeymoon and everyone at the hotel was super courteous and nice. The views, the water, the marine life, in the hotel is amazing. The only negative thing (which wasn't too big of a deal since we only stayed 5 nights) is that there is only one hotel restaurant, and the menu doesn't change, so after 5 days we were starting to wish there was more variety. I highly recommend this hotel and looking forward to going back.

Some good, some bad...
We stayed on the private island in bunglow 129. The air is NOT good! Some staff are great like our housekeepers Juliet/Rachel and maintance people. Others like the people in the restaurant are rude and VERY SLOW!!(on the private island). The wifi in the room is terrible, also only 1 English speaking TV channel. We were there 10 days. The good things was that when checking out they put us in another room for 4 hours. That was really nice. The snorkeling was amazing outside our bungalow. Also, it is beautiful!! It depends what is important to you. If air condition and wifi is important then private island is not for you, but if you want to snorkel anytime then this is your place.

12-day Honeymoon
My wife and I were impressed from the moment we got off the boat at Sofitel Private Island. Everything about the hotel was great: the rooms were clean and relatively large, the staff were extremely friendly, and the food was descent (order the burger for lunch.) The property on which the hotel is situated is spectacular and thoughtfully integrated with the natural landscape. If you're looking for a "homey" and unpretentious resort to spend your time on, then this is the place for you. Overall a great experience. Side note: The full-day snorkeling excursion with EcoTour is well-down and lots of fun. Also we thought Mai Kai Restaurant, which is one of eight or so restaurants on the island, served the best food.

Limited privacy!
Hotel location, outside of the motu would be ideal to relax. However, due to the fact that the water villas are very near from each other - once can see and hear the guests from both the right and left water villa - the privacy almost does NOT exist. This does not allow to have a good relaxation as many times you can hear the guests of the other villas as if they were on your own. Breakfast options were good and lunch quite varied...however dinner options were limited and expensive! Additionally, this hotel is located in Bora Bora, which is highily NOT recommended neither for diving nor for snorkelling. If you have dived and snorkelled in Roatan, Belize, Maldives, Fiji and Rangiroa or Tikehau, among others, Bora Bora hotel will not be up to your expectations. This would have been a good hotel to relax, if it was not because of the lack of privacy in the water bungalows.

I was in Paradise.
Went to the resort for honeymoon that I've waited for a year after the wedding. It was great! Staff was nice and friendly and welcome gift was awesome including huge fresh coconut. Room was great Except a few minor problems like one of the sliding doors to the bathroom was difficult to be moved and the other one was too flimsy. Also, A/C was good ONLY in the room as there were open windows with a screen in toilette & shower room so bathroom/sliding doors had to be closed all the time. Bathroom will be moist and damp due to this. Food was great! I heard complaints about food but personally it was way higher than my expectation. Seafood and entertainment were amazing. Location was perfect (if you like a quiet location and like to snorkel). If you Canoe for 5 minutes around the island, you can find the snorkel hotspot right away. Or you can walk or snorkel there.

This place I will call paradise, if you can afford it and don't mind too long of a flight. Then this is one of the best places in the world that I was blessed to visit!

As per description, this hotel is on a small island 5 minute boat ride from main island. Swimming, eating and relaxing is about all you can do at this hotel without going across the lagoon. Bungalows are roomy enough and functional but showing it's age.While we were there(9/17/2016 -9/22/2016), it was windy everyday and water was very choppy. Hotel is located on windward side of the lagoon and I think it's windy most of the time. Small corals are everywhere and can be uncomfortable to walk in the water without proper footwear. The wind and choppy water does detract from full enjoyment of Bora Bora experience. Breakfast buffet is very limited and it's worth the boat ride across the lagoon to sister hotel Marara to eat. If I were to go back, I would choose a different hotel with better location and facilities.

Perfect Place for Honeymoon
Overall the Private Island was exactly what my wife and I needed after the wedding. The staff treated us unbelievably well and were very helpful and attentive. The beach and bungalow was also perfect for our honeymoon getaway. The restaurant was really good however I will say that they tend to be understaffed for dinner and at the bar.
