Crow's Nest Retreat

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

The perfect retreat for couples—and full of New England charm—this crow’s nest hideaway has just enough room for 2, plus a private, romantic deck with lush treetop vistas in summer and ocean views in winter. Easily walk to downtown Boothbay from here.

ABOUT THE APARTMENT

A private deck welcomes you to your third-floor treetop escape. Spend mornings together sipping coffee at the table for 2 while looking out at the ocean or lush green landscape. A gas grill lets you enjoy casual alfresco meals during warmer months.

Inside, a warm wood interior lends the kitchen and dining area all the quaint charm you’d expect of a secluded New England getaway. Pick up fresh seafood downtown, then prepare dinner in a fully appointed galley-style kitchen where a skylight lets in a flood of natural light. The adjacent dining space seats 4 at a round wooden table.

The rustic theme continues into the king-size bedroom where artwork lines the walls and Victorian-style curtains add a touch of whimsy. The attached bath echoes the home’s historic character with a clawfoot tub, and also has a standing shower, vanity and dresser for storage.

Spend evenings in curling up on the sofa in the nautical-themed living area that channels the maritime setting of Boothbay. Here, a large picture window overlooks the trees and a comfortable sofa faces the 36” flat screen TV. Tuck into a novel in the reading corner with two plush armchairs.

THE LOCATION

Nestled above the landscape, your rental will feel like its own private getaway, but you’ll benefit from staying within walking distance of downtown Boothbay Harbor.

Walk down to Commercial Street, just a 5-minute stroll, and choose from whale watching with Cap'n Fish, a harbor cruise with Balmy Days or an adventure of a lifetime aboard the Schooner Eastwind.

When all that fresh sea air’s whetted your appetite, head back to shore and take your pick. Locals recommend lobster rolls at Shannon’s, or there’s tapas and wine at the Boathouse Bistro and great coffee at the Red Cup Coffee House. Ports of Italy, an Italian and seafood restaurant heralded as one of Boothbay’s best and most romantic eateries, is just a 6-minute walk away.

Explore the outdoors together and check out the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, 8 minutes away by car, as well as the many nature preserves in the area.

Winter nights are aglow at Boothbay's Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Maine's largest light display just got even larger, with over 360,000 (and counting!) LED lights illuminating the central gardens and buildings and drawing festive crowds from all over.

Spend some time with your special someone and experience the charm of this crows’ nest getaway in an unbeatable Boothbay Harbor location.

Smiling all the way up up up.
Within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. You’re not able to see the water from the deck, at least not while there are leaves still on the trees. I liked that we were asked to remove our shoes while in the house, makes me feel like it’s cleaner than most places. The AC unit was loud and in the way in the living room, luckily we weren’t there to watch TV so it didn’t make a big difference; shut it off while we had the TV on. They had plenty of dishes, pots, pans, utensils etc. (bring a corkscrew if you plan on having wine though, we looked everywhere an didn’t spot one! lol) We’d consider another place in the area just because of the 47 stairs (not exaggerating, I counted them) to get up to the apartment. I don’t know that we’d find a place better for the price though. Overall we were comfortable and had a nice time in this quaint little town.

Crows Nest August 2023
Adorable place. Great location. Steps are tough, not for the weak of heart lol! Apartment is hard to cool down, but a/c did work well in the 2 rooms they are in. Didn’t use the living room due to the poor condition of the couch-needs to be replaced for sure. Two smoke detectors were sitting on the kitchen counter when we arrived and two empty spots were noted on the ceiling where they should have been. Other minor repairs were needed as well, but overall could not beat the space and location!

Stairs were tough. Got easier each time. Older with bad knees would be an issue. A little dark inside. Great deck. Great location. Full fridge for Maine Beers. Highly recommend, would stay again.

Location is Worth the Stairs
Be aware that the journey from ground level to the apartment is three full flights of stairs. Not overly long flights, and still challenging enough that you wouldn't want to forget your phone or key in the room and have to go back up. REGARDLESS, other than the stairs, this place was in the perfect spot to set up shop and explore the entire harbor. Walk to EVERYTHING is easy. Shower and water worked fine. Heat (if you're there in the winter) is outstanding in one room, moderate in another, and FAIR in the rest of the place. Since it's on the top floor, heat from below does rise, so the rooms won't be overly chilly. Would definitely stay again. Loved the location.

Cute and cozy
The place was just as advertised…super cute and cozy, but pretty dated as well. We spent some time in a hotel on this trip and found that we really liked our time at this property better than the hotel. It’s just so dang cute and cozy :). We spent all our days out doing things so we didn’t even use any of the kitchen, but it looked sufficiently stocked. Location is great for Boothbay Harbor access. It was cold and it was off-season so we drove the 60 seconds down to the water and parked but in high season, you could easily walk. The stairs up to the unit are definitely a consideration. Not hard or too much, but a consideration when it comes to luggage. Pack light and in small bags. For your safety, there are rails on the stairs but those rails make it hard to carry much more than a carry on sized bag up the stairs. Thankfully we knew this from previous reviews so we packed accordingly and it was no problem. I did give 4 stars for communication with manager because I did send a text through the app that was never answered. We were hoping for a late checkout and were sent an email halfway through our stay that said they would let us know the day before departure if we could have the late checkout. That email never came so I texted within the VRBO app and never received a response. Overall, it’s a Great little place!

Wonderful experience!
We absolutely loved the place. The only comment is that there are 47 steps to get to the door. Not a big problem for us. The listing said it was a crows nest. Not a problem for us even though we are both 70 but may impact others. Location was great! Service was excellent - the propane tank was empty and they came out with a replacement early the next day. The space was clean and the layout was fun. Would recommend and may go back again!

Crows nest perch
We loved this quaint space. You do need to be able to navigate steps. The reward is a lovely perch atop an old well kept house.

Location in Boothbay Harbor
The location of this property is excellent. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, Harbor, Opera House, etc. That is the best part of this property. As other reviewers stated, there are 46 stairs to get up to this property. Just need to be thoughtful when getting luggage and groceries up. You don’t want too many trips up and down. It was warm when we were there. Very warm/hot upstairs. There is an ac unit in living room and a window unit in bedroom. We did have to use them. They were helpful in cooling those rooms. They do not cool the entire place. The property was very clean. Having said that, the decor is very outdated. The king bed was comfortable but would be much better with updated sheets and blanket/comforter and pillows. The window coverings/curtains are old Victorian. Not our style and makes the place feel not as inviting as it could. This could be a very comforting/beautiful place with a few updates. Especially with new coverings on furniture, window coverings, bedding, etc. The kitchen was adequate at best. The bathroom is outdated but clean. Water pressure was great in the shower. So, overall, great location. Would we stay there again…probably not…unless updates as stated above.
