The hotel and location are great. The room was lovely and clean. The food is very nice but quite pricey. We stayed here particularly because we wanted to use the spa and were disappointed that the jaccuzzi was out of action and although the spa says it is open until 9pm access to some parts were restricted from around 7:30pm because they had cleared them ready for the next day! Which wasn't great for us as we could only really use the spa in the evening due to time of arrival as a result of travel.

Great for a weekend of rest

Posted 07-Jun-2016
Pros: Peaceful surroundings.
Cons: Use real coffee for coffee drinks, rather than instant. Don't use frozen fish for your fish and chips meal.
Location: Longleat Animal Park is very close, just a few minutes away.
We stayed here about 15 years ago, the hotel has not changed much, still very pleasant. A few suggestions. Please don't use powdered coffee mix when people order a latte. You can tell it from the taste. The effort you go through with the restaurant is wonderful, sadly, it appeared that when ordering fish and chips, you are serving frozen cod, this I found unpleasant. Again, you can tell the difference. You might want to exchange the mattresses, they are starting to get a bit soggy.. Otherwise, I think you are doing a great job.

Convenient stop-over enroute to Tiverton

Posted 03-Jun-2016
Pros: We received a very warm welcome on arrival and made to feel 'at home'. Room 5 at the front of the house was spacious and had a good view of the garden
Cons: A block of wood for holding the large window ajar for fresh air would be useful - resorted to one of the many cushions!
Just returned from staying in a five star hotel in Venice and the Bishopstrow Hotel compares favourably with that hotel.

An amazing hotel and spa with great food. The perfect stay and huge rooms with big bathrooms. The pool and spa were exactly what we needed. Highly recommend.

Old property with some modern luxuries

Posted 11-Mar-2016
Spent a night here prior to a business trip and pleased to report an enjoyable experience. If I could pick fault, and I'm having to dig deep here, the shower wasn't as powerful as I would have hoped, I had to try and find a happy medium between temperature and power. Aside from that, the staff were very attentive and polite, the room was clean and comfortable, and although I arrived too late to be hungry enough for dinner, the Wiltshire breakfast was superb and set me up nicely for a long day ahead. Overall, very happy and would go back if I am staying in the area again.

Valentine weekend

Spent only one night here and wish it could have been longer. Totally switched off and relaxed-the spa was great and not too crowded, staff very tentative and even the guests were friendly on this occasion. Beautiful building and sourounding gardens. Check out menu though - Evening menu quiet special meal was well prepared and couldn't fault it but not to my taste.

Christmas at the Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa

Posted 04-Jan-2016 on Hotels

Best winter getaway

Excellent stay besides the log fire, in the heated swimming pool and playing games in the library. Food good and service very friendly, don't need to go out except to walk down to the stream and see the Victorian follies

Country House Hotel

Posted 22-Oct-2015
Pros: Very clean, comfortable rooms
Cons: Décor and a fridge in the room would be good, more extensive menu although the food on offer was excellent
Location: Lots to do Stonehenge, Longleat, Salisbury Plain etc
Lovely old country home in picturesque gardens. Sadly since I last visited interior designers have, in my humble opinion, ruined the ambience with a70's retro feel that is quite inappropriate but obviously they liked it!
