This is our second time visiting Downhall, last time a few years ago and in the Summer and we loved it just as much this time as we did last time. The building and grounds are lovely, great if you enjoy walking. We did the red walking trail which was marked as strenuous but found it completely fine and enjoyable. We had a standard double room which had everything we needed in it. The shower was hot with good pressure and the bed was comfortable. Coffee, tea and biscuits was stocked up daily. We was happy to have a small fridge in the room, however if you drink the water in there it will cost you £5. It would be nice if water was complimentary but we just went to the bar and brought a jug of ice water up to the room. We ate food from the bar area which was 10/10! (Burger, fish, and steak and ale pie). The main dining restaurant didn't have much of an atmosphere. We had breakfast included in our room rate as got a great deal on Expedia otherwise we wouldn't have booked hotel breakfast. I think the usual price is £18pp, which I think is expensive for what we eat. The first day was a Sunday and it was busy so the hotel had an overflow room, breakfast was okay, could have been warmer and drinks took a long time to come. However, we can appreciate it was busy and the staff were working very hard! The second day breakfast was much quieter, there was more choice, it was hotter, tasted much better and drinks arrived faster. Facilities are great and all the staff were friendly!
