Birmingham Paragon Hotel

Posted 03-Dec-2016
Weekend in Birmingham First ever so got there early and excited 11.30 the Paragon had no early check in possibilities After my meetings 3 till 8 I signed in at 8.30pm and went out with friends The car park was like something from grand theft auto in London I returned at midnight and went to my room The heating did not work so I slept in my clothes Sunday morning I told reception as I left for another meeting at 9. I returned 1am Monday morning but the room was still unheatable The radiator did not work Reception very helpful and gave me a small portable heater I parked on the street outside the neighbouring park as it was easier and safer I believe than the car park The hotel looked quite impressive in the morning sunshine as I left for home in the south. Overall I would probably use the Paragon again.

Cheap hotel but poor facilities

Posted 30-Nov-2016
The heater was broken and we reported it and got told someone would fix it but never did! Was a cold night! Bad beds and basic room facilities. Corridors leading to the room had broken walls and didn't leave a good impression. Staff were pleasant.

Stay at your own risk!

Posted 30-Nov-2016
Pros: the staff were generally nice - the history of the building is interesting.
Cons: EVERYTHING Particularly cleaning staff
Location: Location is in a bit of a dodgy area in a Industrial estate.
I book into this hotel for its convenient location and some what reasonable price. When I arrived there is an indoor car Park that is locked overnight so you feel you car is safe. When i got to the room the shower was covered in mold - i don't just mean in the grout of the tiles i mean wet mold all over the shower hose. The room was dated but functional but the shower was filthy. I complained and to the hotels credit they sent cleaners to the room while i was out and all of the tile grout had been bleached and cleaned but yet the shower hose was still covered in wet mold. disgusting. - i took a video on my phone and went to show it to reception who told me they couldn't move my room today and all there were no cleaners. That was day one. I eventually got to move rooms to a much nicer room (still a bit grim) the key card didn't work so i got a physical key (no problem I could deal with that) one day later the water in the room stopped running. so i went and complained at which point the hotel told me they knew and have assigned me the room next door. room three - still not nice a few chunks of of the wall and exposed cables but almost moldless and running water. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! - my friend said he had a lovely room on the 5th floor (refurbed) then his water stopped running on the last day and he wasn't as pleased about it - one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had - first time booking on Expedia - never again!

Last Chance Saloon

Posted 26-Nov-2016
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Everything
Location: Poor district but easy walking to shopping centres, nightlife and restaurants.
As always, very poor rooms, non-functioning just about everything. At third room change, found one that was just about acceptable for one overnight stay. Position compounded by work proceeding during evening in changing furniture in some rooms - the 'new' which came in flat-packs was frankly just about as bad as the junk being taken out. Toilet/shower had been repainted and new tiles fitted, despite this mould already coming through. The toilet seat and washbasin looked like they had been bought in a fire sale, with a horrid square-shaped plastic toilet seat, and a leaking washbasin plug. No hot (or warm) water of course, par for the course at this last-chance saloon. Car park disgusting, filthy, very difficult to manoeuvre medium-sized car into. But it was cheap!

OK Hotel in unpleasant area

Posted 25-Nov-2016
Pros: new bathroom
Cons: some corridors smelt mattress was in urgent need of replacement
Location: Grotty location - rundown industrial units, hostel & high rise block council flats
Overall this was OK but I was relieved to find all the wheels on my car!

No pressure in shower of 1st room I was given. Had room changed to a room with no heating,(had a radiator hanging from where it was once installed). My room bill got overcharged on checkout and it took over ten minutes to refund this money with no sight of a manager then or at any time during my stay

Wouldn't stay here again

Posted 24-Nov-2016
Cons: The basics like heating, water and windows need to be improved to make guests more comfortable.
Location: The location didn't look very inviting, so didn't adventure much into surrounding area. Residential, not many people walking round and not much to do
There are two options of room: old, smelly but with internet access, or new and refurbished, not smelly but no internet access. I chose the new and was still disappointed. The heating is off until guest enters, so it was freezing cold, and the heater hardly heated up the room, even overnight. Windows are terrible- don't keep out cold or noise. Nearby outside there must be some kind of nightclub, as music was blurring until the early hours. The bathroom flooded overnight, don't know from what. I couldn't even get a shower as there was no hot water in the room, so the flooding must have been from sink or toilet. Wouldn't stay here again.

Terrible Room.

Posted 24-Nov-2016
Hotel room was not worth the money I payed for it. The room had no lights so using the bathroom was a nightmare It also had flies in it. The shower was dirty also. Furthermore I payed for a double room and was shocked when I lied on the bed and discovered it was uneven. As I inspected the bed I discovered it was two single beds with two single mattresses that had been pushed togather as to make out it was a double bed. The quilt was suited for a single bed also and didn't fit the bed so two people using it was a nightmare. Very disappointed.
