- Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
- Disliked: Room comfort
The room was freezing, laminate flooring and heating unit not working, only found out in the middle of the night. Not happy won’t use mercure again.

The re furbishment is very successful, I stayed a year ago and noticed improvements this time. The staff are excellent, and also the Clarendon restaurant food. Very good breakfast but consider porridge as an option. The barman in the bar, with a beard, really put himself out to build up the fire, and told me he was brought up on a farm. I swam in the pool and used sauna, all facilities v clean and good. Spa had no spaces available for a massage, and was same situ last year. Promote spa booking number to hotel guests in advance, also consider a discount for hotel guests. The one and only rub with Brandon Hall: The entrance seating area and bar, can be chilly and draughty. There are a lack of places to sit. The new chairs in bar are far too big for the space, and it’s impossible to draw a chair near the fire, v needed in a chilly draughty bar. I managed to turn one chair and sit facing fire in the evening after dinner with my drink and kindle, but I was then awkwardly placed for other guests going to bar, and a large party who like to stand at the bar, so I eventually moved, but returned to room as it was too cold. 2 other guests were by fire in entrance area, and were re-building the fire there.
