Location: Loads of places to eat and shop nearby, and just minutes from New St Station
Room was basic, but comfortable enough. Good variety for breakfast

Just the right level of everything!

Pros: Room size, room standard, staff, general quality and presentation. Also pleasing to note a pet option at quite a nominal cost.
Cons: Some of the carpets are wearing a little, as is some of the decoration however improvements were in progress.
Location: Superb location, central for travel, transport, eating, shopping and entertainment.
This is the second time we've stayed here and certainly won't be the last. It's had a few changes since our first stay and they're all for to better. We'd booked through an online agency so check-in was done in a minute or two. We'd chosen a "Superior room" which turns out to be "Executive" and it was a delight - lots of room, nice facilities and well worth the bit extra. Also on a high floor so a little further away from the city noise. The lounge/bar area has had a nice refit and we ate there after the theatre (serving till 11pm) and the following morning, also had an excellent breakfast. The new layout gives you the option to get away from the mass if you wish by simply walking around a corner. The room had a 6-foot plus bed with a good range of pillows (very nice) and was both spacious and well-appointed. Large-screen TV, hairdryer, mini-bar, range of lighting and a nicely fitted bathroom - with a bath! Everything was nicely presented, comfortable and a pleasure to use. The level of service was pleasing and to a very high standard without being either intrusive or claustrophobic as we've experienced in Kensington for example. This hotel is also superbly located being a matter of a few minutes walk from New St. Station, the Hippodrome. The Town Hall, The Symphony Hall etc etc. It's an ideal base from which to explore entertainment and a wide range of shopping and/or eating. All round very, very pleased and without a doubt this WILL be our first choice in future!

When they say "double bed" they mean Kingsize

Location: Ideally placed for most activities in the city centre: easy walking access from New Street station and to shopping areas, Broad Street, etc.
A major refurbishment and expansion of the ground floor is in its final stages and evidence of investment and renovation is visible throughout. The Holiday Inn Birmingham was already a safe bet as a good value city centre stay but we were very impressed by the changes since our last stay. Our room was huge and so was the bed - the online description of "double room" quietly understated the size and value of this booking. Very impressed.

Avoid this hotel at present !

This hotel is being renovated on the lower levels. This is not well advertised and Many basic features are not there for example there's only one working lift for 250 + bedrooms so you can imagine the delay this causes. We were on the 5th floor and due to bar/restaurant and reception levels this often meant a 8 floor climb to the room with only the fire exit stairs being available at present. The room was basic standard with the bathroom being very poor. The tap in the sink wasn't even attached and just spun round. The shower curtain wouldn't stay closed due to a wonky rail meaning the floor got flooded easily and became very slippery. The shower head leaked from the base so the pressure was low. The electric towel rail kept shorting out and the whole room smelt. The room itself was ok but not upto usual holiday inn levels. The aircon barely worked. The hotel is also in a very noisy location even high up with the constant base of the nearby entertainment venues. I did complain to reception about the above faults on the first day of a 2 day stay however they seemed very disinterested and the only thing changed was the brown stained shower Curtain. The hotel have also adopted a some what interesting policy of not asking guests how there stay was upon check out. I wonder why....Finally (after 10) be prepared to meet a big bouncer on the temporary entrance door. He's both rude and lacks basic customer service skills and won't let you in without ID or a room key.
