Nice location. Needed to pay extra for breakfast which we couldn't do as breakfast was from 8am and we needed to be elsewhere by then. Including breakfast and having an earlier start time would have made this an ideal location.

I was just staying one night as my partner was having an operation at the hospital... nice and Central for the hospital..... I was lucky and had an ensuite room.... I would not have been able to stay and share facilities.....I had porridge for breakfast which was ok but there wasn't any honey or fresh fruit to add to it.... bit disappointed about that.... I left my phone charger in my room and staff have been very kind and sending it back to me.. Bed was comfortable, didn't like the lights over the bed they far too bright and couldn't move them in such a way that they didn't blind me. Couldn't get the tv to work but by then I was too exhausted to do anything about it....had to boil kettle on floor as no plug sockets near the kettle etc. Would I stay here again? If I wanted a cheap value for money price near to the hospital it would suffice..... I kept my car there at the awentsbury and got a taxi there and back.... very reasonable rates with no worries or stress of parking in the hospital car park

Dreadful stay
The experience of staying in this hotel is horrible. I certainly would not touch it again. First the hotel staff stole my stuff from the baggage case - this is utterly intolerable!!!!! Othere issues were: (1) the hotel staff was rude and not helpful (2) the room and bedding staff were dirty (3) the heater was turned off during the night and given it is an very old house (poor insulation), the room was very cold (4) there was one day when the hot water and heater were completely broken down and thus there were no hot water and heater at all. Hotel was not even bother to appologize for the inconvenience.

Truly Awful - Avoid at all costs
Our stay can only be described as awful. Terrible even. in my whole life I have never encountered such a horrible place. We left after one night due to various quality issues - no soap in dispenser, no shower gel, light in ensuite above sink did not work, floor not sealed properly at shower tray, hairs in shower tray, and toilet seat broken and insecure. From a safety point of view the faceplate from one of the wall sockets was hanging off the wall, as was the faceplate for a (unused ?) telephone socket. Mattress was completely worn and provided absolutely no support - you could feel the springs. The Manageress was very helpful but was clearly constrained by what the owner allowed her to do. Overall we felt the place was like a doss-house, and we left a day early. It is a disgrace that Hotels.com list this "place". Our request for a refund for the second night was refused even though we had to go to a relatives to use their bathroom to wash and clean up.

Very tired hotel. Convenient location for uni
Booked as close to the University where I was attending a course. I was surprised at how many rooms there were potentially sharing the bathrooms. I'm not sure how many(if any) have ensuite but there seemed to be a lot of rooms sharing the facilities which i hadn't expected. There were two separate toilets one bathroom (bath only) and a shower room all of which were incredibly dated. I had a single room which had a basin in, furnishing were basic and on the whole the room was incredibly tired. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. Area is nice, convenient for the uni. Service was Ok, had to ask where the facilities were no real customer service.

An ok place to stay for a night
Nice staff. Let me leave my car there the whole of the following day. Great for Edgbaston cricket - half hour walk - uphill on way back! As others have said, hotel is clean but run down and dolls do with a some TLC. Mattresses are sprung and soft. Wood chip wallpaper painted many times. Tea and coffee in room. A few sockets. Shower pressure low. Didn't stay for breakfast as it was served between 8-9am and we wanted to leave at 8.30 but smell was good as we left. Door to room didn't lock from inside and no handle on inside of ensuite door. All said and done, it was ok.

In need of a complete facelift. No toilet roll in
We got down for breakfast at 8 and my poached eggs came at 9.15. I think they had been cooking that long as well. They were inedible. No apologies from staff. Everyone in the breakfast room had to wait that long as well. One lady only ordered a sausage and it came on the plate shrivelled up. I certainly wouldn’t go back there

Excellent location only 2 miles from city centre
The hotel phoned the week before to double check my booking and when we arrived our rooms were exactly as ordered. It is a large roomy house and had a slightly dated feel but that didn't detract from the experience. The full English breakfast in the morning was excellent.

I booked because it was cheap. The woman at front desk was not too cheerful. The room was musky and had woodchip wallpaper (says it all!). Cobweb in bathroom. Bath towels a bit on the small size. The shower was a joke. Nice view of a church through the window. That was the best feature. Slept ok though. Ok for one night but definitely no longer than that.

Nothing to do with hotel as I have never been there. But I got a bad experience with Expedia as they kept 2 booking hide in the site, in my account, not visible or easily available to cancel, so it passed as an active booking and they charge me. Very dangerous site.

Classic B&B very near Birmingham University.
Family-run, classic B&B. Friendly greeting. The room was clean and quiet, so suited me perfectly. Very competitive rates. Easy walking distance of the University. I would definitely stop there again.

It's OK.
Much cheaper in December than the rip off chain establishments, but at normal times of the year when the chains don't have an excuse to over charge this place can't compete. Clean, beds comfortable, staff friendly, but it's an old place in need of refurbishment on the whole.

Hotel has 4 walls and a roof over your head.
We arrived on a cold night, and was greeted by member of staff. The room was ok but it could have been warmer, could not increase temperature via radiator so cozied up under covers. Was very tired after long drive and dozed off.

Disappointing stay
'Hotel' is grand description. Welcome was not warm, shared bathroom and rooms not clean. Decor could do with a refurb. Fine if you want cheap stay overnight, but not ideal for a women in her own. Didn't stay for breakfast as no time.

Nice period House in a lovely quiet part of Brum.
Good location close to local amenities. Paid £6 for a taxi to Hare & Hounds venue to see a gig, £7 for a taxi back at 03:00. If you want an acceptable room on a budget in a very respectable area of Birmingham, and don’t mind shared Bathroom facilities then this is ideal. Three ⭐️⭐️⭐️ !

Better than camping.
The room was quite small and cold (the central heating was turned off). Unfortunately, the shower hadn't been cleared of old used soap sachets. The blinds didn't quite fully cover the windows, so not much privacy. TV reception was very poor / non-existent. Towel slightly stained. The mattress was comfortable though.

Basic amenities. Wall light broken and hanging off the wall. Television had problems "connecting to service" even though I was just watching BBC. The communal toilet was on the same floor, but the bath/shower was on a completely separate floor. The cord to the kettle was so short that you could only boil the kettle on the floor.

My worst ever hotel experience
This is a budget hotel, so my expectations were not high. Nevertheless, I was sorely disappointed. The owner answered the door in his dressing gown after I rang for the 2nd time. It was 09:15. He omitted any greeting & said "You're early, aren't you?". We hadn't agreed a check in time. The room wasn't ready (I wasn't expecting it to be) but left my bags & agreed to come back at 4. At this time, I was able to check in without incident. The room appeared basic but functional at 1st glance. Then I noticed the frayed cord & loose plug on the kettle (I wasn't brave enough to use it). The light fittings were amateurishly installed & the window didn't shut properly. None of the plugs worked. I went to ask about this & encountered the lady owner. When I explained the problem she replied "What do you mean?". I explained. "Well...what do you want to use them for?". I nearly laughed at her rudeness. There was no apology, but she said her husband would look at it when he got back "in an hour". I went out for dinner & they were working when I returned. Still no apology/explanation. The bed was actually quite comfortable & the (shared) bathroom had a warm & fairly powerful shower. Also a full-length mirror opposite the toilet, which struck me as odd. I went for breakfast at 8. I had been told it was from 8-9. By 10 past there was no sign of anyone but there were jam smears & crumbs on the placemats so I left without food. Not many breakfast alternatives nearby. The wifi was ok.

Convenient no-frills hotel close to the University
A stay at this hotel is a no-frills experience. The beds are not particularly comfortable and the wi-fi can't handle much. It is conveniently located within walking distance to the University and a street with grocery stores and good Asian food. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean. Skip the breakfast. The coffee was burnt, the bacon was tough, and it all took nearly an hour to arrive.

The hotel was a perfect location for me - 10 minutes walk from the University where i was attending a conference. It was comfortable and adequate for my needs and i would stay there again. But probably not for everyone. Its very much an old style b&b/hotel - probably little changed since the 1960s in terms of decor, approach to guest service, breakfast etc. The woman who greeted me at check in was functional and certainly not welcoming but not rude. The room was adequate. Bed comfortable. Very quiet. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was a typical 'greasy spoon' cooked breakfast -for £7 i should have eaten at the University

Worst place I have ever stayed. Left after 6 hrs
Never stay here it's like a care home. Stinks and very rude manager. I left after 6 hrs as couldn't stand smell anymore. Wish I could get a refund. Also if you need toilet during night you have to dress as its at end of corridor shared. You have been warned !!!!!!!

No staff to welcome and greet guest.
Booked twin room which had shower unit but lavatory was outside corridor and was shared ! At night you could hear snoring from guests above and the squeeking floor each time someone was moving. I also had nightmares at night , which is quite unusual.
