The Abando is located close to typical Spanish / Basque bars for tapas and drinks. It is also within walking distance of world class restaurants. Casco Viejo, or Old Town, is a 10 minute walk away and offers cuisine and history. The Grand Via, Bilbao's premier street for shopping and walking/relaxing is directly around the corner. But yet, with all that is going on around it, the Abando is a nice quiet stay with excellent staff and an excellent breakfast.

Excellent central location and wonderful view of the Plaza from the front part of the hotel! More friendly receptionist would be an additional asset ! Breakfast was ok although a more diversity would also be appreciated. However, the city view clearly compensate any such small things!!

Wonderful hotel, excellent location, unfortunately destroyed by the coronavirus regulations. Would love to stay again when we get back to normality. One small critism was the lack of English channels on TV. I have stayed in many of the Melia Hotels in Spain and there was always a choice of a few but this hotel only has BBC world news. Not good enough for a 5 star hotel, apart from that would definitely recommend when this pandemic is over.

Lovely hotel if you like staying around hotels, just a bit too far from town. Plenty to do at the hotel, pool, gym etc and lots of outdoor space to relax. Usually when you are captive, prices are higher for drinks etc but this wasn't the case here. Our room was big and had everything you want. Breakfast was decent. Nice bar over the road, don't let appearances put you off, it's nice inside and the staff are friendly. Worth popping over for a change.
