"Close to everything, walking distance to center of"
Great hotel and friendly staff at front desk as well as bar. Comfortable room, large bathroom. No elevator if that is an issue. Only problem we encountered was with dinners in hotel restaurant. Quality not in keeping with prices, one burned dessert and one steak ordered was replaced with cheaper cut of meat. No apology. Stay in hotel, eat in town.

"2 bed apartment "
We stayed in a 2 bed apartment in July 2015. It was clean, great location and had everything we needed. Thankfully there was space in the living room as the bedrooms particularly one was bit tight (bed prevents door opening fully). The adjoining restaurant was the most expensive of our whole trip around UK and I did not consider it good value for money ($4 for one slice of garlic bread!).

"Completed Birthday Weekend"
Stayed for birthday weekend and was not disappointed. Thoroughly enjoyed the room and facilities (lounge bar and for breakfast) and even had my birthday meal at the hotel on the Friday night. Barman on duty on the Friday was very impressive.

"Pleasant Surprise"
Came to the Rocpool after a week in Edinburgh at a so-called 5 star luxury hotel. Our expectations were not high as the hotel in Edinburgh was so disappointing (reminded us of Eastern block hotels in the '90s). We were pleasantly surprised by the Rocpool. It is truly a luxury boutique hotel. We had a 'Chic' room, which was beautiful. The room was spacious enough, bed was very comfortable and had an assortment of pillows, great bathroom and shower, wonderful room service breakfasts with beautiful presentation. The staff recommended good local restaurants and arranged for a driver who took us around for a day to local sights and a whisky distillery for tour and tasting. Best food of our entire stay in Scotland was at the Rocpool Restaurant (no relation) along the River Loch. You won't be disappointed!

"Nice hotel and spa. Lots of OAP coach tours."
This is a large, clean hotel with great views of the river Ness and Inverness Castle (if you get a room with a view). The spa is lovely and the pool is very warm and luxurious. The rooms are a good size with comfy beds. The main reception area seems to always have lots of OAPs sitting around and occasionally some 'live' music from a man with CD player and a guitar playing songs like 'Oh Danny Boy' as all the elderly guests sing along. Thankfully we could not hear the music, which was quite loud, from our room on the second floor. The corridors smell a little of deep fried food for some reason, but the rooms are absolutely fine. Breakfast was good - there is a choice of cooked breakfast or continental and it was only £5 per person so really reasonable. Again, there was loud, old-fashioned music (think Daniel O'Donnell) being played at breakfast, which was a little strange and not what I wanted to hear at breakfast. Overall I would recommend this hotel to friends and family because it is in a fabulous, very convenient location. The hotel offers a valet parking service to guests, which is very handy. The cost of staying there is very reasonable and it is a very clean hotel. The staff were wery friendly and we had a wonderfully peaceful stay in a large, comfortable room with a nice bed.

Pocket Guide: Scottish Highlands Big Sand Beach Hotels

A vast array of stunning beaches might not be the first thing that crosses your mind when you think of Scotland, but the Scottish Highlands and Hebrides are replete with sandy coves, rolling dunes, and long stretches of golden sand.

Staying in hotels in this area will afford you the chance to see these coastal beauties, as well as one of the most dramatic of these beaches, the famous Big Sand Beach. This popular stretch of sand sits sheltered from the wind by Longa Island, and boasts spectacular views of the Munros in Torridon and the mountains of Isle of Skye.

    Torridon and Ullapool

Just to the south of Big Sand Beach sits the stunning landscape of Torridon, a National Trust for Scotland site. Visitors can enjoy the pleasure and challenge of summiting three of Scotland’s famous Munros, including the 1054m tall Liathach, as well as exploring the shores of Loch Torridon.

East of Big Sands Beach and Torridon you’ll find the quaint fishing town of Ullapool, a perfect place for you to base your local adventure from. Using Expedia's handy search tool will help you find the right hotel, bed & breakfast, or guesthouse for your break away.
