Fantastic character hotel set in the foothills of the Black Forest. Friendly helpful staff and good dining in the evenings. Breakfast was good with a decent choice. The area is quiet and perfect for touring and walking, but also well linked for a train or bus into Freiburg.

Peaceful Getaway
We had such a great time relaxing in such a quiet and beautiful setting. Each staff person we encountered was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 29th anniversary! Our dinners were fantastic, and the servers were warm and accommodating. The only thing that was missing was dish soap in the kitchenette. It would make washing the pots/pans easier.

Best part of my trip to Germany
As same as what i said to the family when we checked out, this is the best part of my 7 days trip and 3 cities in Germany. The hotel is managed in a perfect way, you can see the history at every corner but still it is clean and comfortable. It is just right for a relax stay who want to get away from city and crowd, a pity is we didn't get time to have dinner at the restaurant, but always leave something for next trip, right? I will definitely come back with family to Goldenen Adler

Amazing
This family owned and operated hotel is absolutely lovely with an amazing group of people on staff. They go out of their way to be accommodating and helpful and are always happy to see you and ask about your day. The room I stayed in was large and impeccably clean, with antique furniture and a very comfortable bed. It had a nice large bathroom and also large windows with a beautiful view of the town.

Very good hotel/Gasthof in rural Freiburg (some 10 minutes from downtown). We really enjoyed our stay. Nice walkways around the little village where you can relax after a day on the Autobahn. Good dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast also was very good. Highly recommended.

Charming hotel
The staff was very courteous, spoke English, and helped make our stay very enjoyable. The restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced. Many antiques gave the hotel atmosphere. Because it is an older hotel, there is no elevator which makes the third floor a climb for elderly folk. Hotel offered bus/train transport into nearby Freiberg.

Black Forest treasure
This hotel was second to none ,we arrived early from strasbourg, the lady who owned hotel gave us a room right away and a map and told us where we could park in Freiburg for shopping ,when we came back later she gave us directions into mountain and forest which is amazing ,the hotel was lovely ,the room very cosy and homely,very quiet ,breakfast plentiful, the girl asked us if we would like scrambled or boiled egg, the lady owner spoke great English ,which was a great help as we were Scottish ,and could not speak German ,all the staff very nice,we were travelling back up to Luxembourg,Maastricht,and Bruges ,but wish we had booked longer,will be back ,better than your big name hotels,the only down side is you need a car to get the benifit of this beautiful place ,free parking .

We loved the quaint little inn in a quaint little town, In the morning I took about a 2 mile hike in the hill that overlooked the town, It was simply wonderful. The food was excellent. Loved it

Great small town getaway
Beautiful old inn in the nice town of Oberried. Rode a bike here from Freiburg on the well marked paths, would definitely recommend that as well. The hotel was excellent - very clean and comfortable, good restaurant downstairs, locked my bike up for me in a side building out of the rain. Very good breakfast included as well, and beautiful surroundings. Worth the trip out from Freiburg!

If in the Black Forest - a GREAT Place!
This hotel was one of our favorite stops during our 2-week Germany visit! The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. The rooms and staff are extremely friendly and helpful!! They were flexible and supportive. I would love to go back and stay here again. A great find in at the door to the Black Forest!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were made very welcome on our arrival and were given advice and suggestions of were to go in the area, which proved useful. Our room was comfortable and beautifully furnished, as is the whole hotel. The staff went out of their way to make our holiday enjoyable. In all - a fantastic, friendly and family run hotel, with hospitable staff. The breakfast and evening meal were delicious, and a good selection of wine too. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Great accomodations! Very friendly staff who can speak English. If you are looking for a stay in an authentic, rural German town, then this is a great place. Location is a little out of the way, but the surrounding area is beautiful. The restaurant at the bottom of the hotel has great food at reasonable prices.

Interesting place to stay, with old furniture and items from the old farmhouse (as it was before it was a hotel) part of the decor on landings. Very pleasant room, good choices at breakfast. Comprehensive info on the area in a large folder in the bedroom.

Comfortable country Inn - short drive to Freiberg
We chose this location, outside the city of Freiberg, due to the fact that we travel with our dog. This hotel was very accomodating to dogs and there were plenty of places to walk her. The hotel was easy to find and had a quaint small town charm. Our room was clean and roomy, and had a great view of the mountains. The staff had enough knowledge of English to make us feel comfortable without fluent German. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. I would pass back by that way just to have dinner again! Perfect little place within a short drive of Freiberg.

Cozy country hotel
We stayed here on our way back from France. It is about 15-20 min from Freiburg in a small country town. Very relaxing town and people are friendly. We got in late and front desk was very helpful. Rooms were big and clean. My wife and I are not used to sleeping in two beds that are pushed together, but we got used to it in europe. All in all a great place and close enough to Freiburg to not feel far away.

Excellent launch pad for spring adventures in the Black Forest. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. Family-run for four generations, the proprietors are sweet and gracious. They raise their own animals and generate water power on site. We received good tips for hiking and were loaned maps to use. The lively restaurant on site serves delicious, traditional food and offers a nice wine selection. The guesthouse is located in a pristine valley (about a 10 minute drive from Freiburg) with access to endless hikes and bike trails (mountain and road biking). The region and the Goldener Adler are at the top of our list for many return trips.
