The only negative to staying at The Cricketers is how every hotel and B&B from this point forward will feel unsatisfactorily in every department. The rooms are clean and modern while feeling homely and inviting. The desire to go above and beyond was unexpected and far greater than what you’d expect ...

The Royal County of Berkshire is so called because of the town of Windsor and its magnificent castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. Parts of Berkshire also date back to Roman times with fascinating ruins and remains to be found throughout the county. Elsewhere you'll find modern theme parks such as Legoland, bustling university towns such as Reading or peaceful riverside towns such as Pangbourne - a perfect location for relaxing and people watching. No matter what your tastes or reasons for visiting Berkshire, a boutique hotel stay will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to explore all that this beautiful county has to offer.
If you're staying in Berkshire, you'll be staying in a county with a rich and illustrious past. Jethro Tull, the agricultural pioneer who helped bring about the Agricultural Revolution was born in the civil parish of Basildon while, more recently, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge was born in Chapel Row near Newbury. There are plenty of gorgeous places in Berkshire that are just waiting to be discovered. Pangbourne has the River Thames flowing right through it, so there are lots of riverside cafés to enjoy and waterside wildlife to watch. It's an ideal place to potter about on a lazy day. The town has lots of independent shops, making it an ideal start or end point for a countryside stroll. It has some heavy-duty literary connections too. Kenneth Grahame, author of Wind in the Willows lived in Pangbourne, while the Swan Public House is referred to in Jerome K. Jerome's classic comic novel Three Men in a Boat.
Elsewhere in Thatcham, Hosehill Lake is a nature reserve with a winding path with lots of seating and bird viewing areas at frequent intervals. The path runs through meadows and past ponds where you're sure to spot plenty of wildlife such as waterfowl and nightingales, dragonflies and damselflies. Relax in a boutique hotel in Berkshire while experiencing and enjoying all that is to be found in this delightful county.
