Fabulous Hotel

Posted 12-Nov-2016
Pros: Everything about our week-end stay was great. We've stayed here before and never been disappointed.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones. Harry's Shack for food at the beach. Fred Funk for great shoes.
The furnishings, staff and especially the spa are fabulous. Alison , in the spa, was particularly nice and thoughtful and Mark the porter was attentive. The food is great and the gardens awesome.

Very comfortable spa hotel, great wedding venue

Posted 05-Nov-2016
Pros: This was a great hotel for weddings, tourism or a combination, or to have a comfortable stay, with the spa. The spa had a good range of facilities.
Cons: The design of the breakfast room meant that most tables were either very close to each other or in areas where people were constantly walking past.
Location: The coast and Giant's Causeway were 40 minutes drive. Also nearby was Dark Hedges an ancient beech tree glade which featured in Game of Thrones.
We recently stayed for a friend's wedding. We also had some time to drive around some of the attractions of the North Antrim coast. We booked a superior room, which was fantastic. It was very comfortable, with a quiet, perfectly controlled air conditioning system. The bed and pillows were the most comfortable of any hotel I have stayed in for years. The room overlooked there grounds with a view of the river. The wedding itself was very efficiently run, with obviously great opportunities for photos in the picturesque grounds. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room had a complimentary mini-bar, which is very unusual. All the public areas were comfortable and with a great ambience. The breakfast was very nice but the design of the Gillies restaurant meant that most of the tables were either very close with no privacy or next to a walkway where people were constantly walking past to get to the buffet. Because of this for an evening meal we chose to eat in the bar area rather than the restaurant. The bar had very nice private tables and the food was the same as in the restaurant itself. A great feature and very unusual was the Gin Bar with a vast range of gins, and staff who were able to advise on which one to choose.

Great way to relax especially in good weather

Hotel was great, staff were young and friendly, the thermal village made this hotel the best we have ever stayed in. The restaurant was also quirky with the pictures of cows eyeballing me while I ate. Loved our stay in full. Very relaxing.

like any nice resort

Posted 11-Aug-2016
Pros: Spa
During my visit from the US I was looking for a more personalized hotel with the character of Northern Ireland. Instead, this was a nice resort of the type that can be found anywhere, including near my home. If you want to travel a far way to stay at a resort with little character but a great spa, this is your place. They had 3 weddings the weekend we were there, so the place was packed with lots of people and out of control children. We ended up staying only one night and moved to a beautiful, historical country manor and had a much better time.

Issue with the booking at the start and was given a free upgrade after advising the room wasn't as expected, which was very nice. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed relaxing in the pool.

Wonderfully warm greeting, nice room

Posted 28-Jul-2016
Pros: Beautiful grounds and friendliness.
Cons: Balcony smoking, training valet on cart loading, ensuring quirky tech things fixed (no res in dining room, music in that room was wedding dance music.
Location: As a resort, it doesn't matter where it is; however, it was more in Galgorm than Ballymena, and seemed like industrial park. Can drive tp Belfast.
Very helpful greeting by valet, who never did get the concept of piling large amounts of luggage on the cart (put three at time on three different carts (even after I suggested other options), which was completely inefficient and insecure for room delivery. Doorman offered to help upon our leaving, but by that time, we'd had a system organized for packing the car. We had even managed our own bags from the room, since we didn't want a repeat of the arrival. Room was nice and clean, but, pyramided balconies allowed us to see straight onto theim, and the smoke and noise from the one directly below made its way into our room.. We wanted to keep the french doors open all the time, except for this. In addition, a we wanted to hear the fabulous stream and waterfall on our side of the hotel. I can't criticize those who wish to use the balcony to socialize, because it doesn't go on and on, but the smoking should not be allowed on the balconies in these situations. This place specializes in weddings; we were told there were 13 weddings that week, with three that day. I thought the breakfast held in the fine dining restaurant was for them, but it turns out it is for people in the higher category rooms, much like Cunard does, and the rest of us breakfasted in the rustic multi level and very complicatedly laid out breakfast area. Out of 7 hotels in 2 weeks, this was ranked 7 on breakfast quality. A fair number of ambiance affecting quirks. Did get good reply from manager.
