like any nice resort

Posted 11-Aug-2016
Pros: Spa
During my visit from the US I was looking for a more personalized hotel with the character of Northern Ireland. Instead, this was a nice resort of the type that can be found anywhere, including near my home. If you want to travel a far way to stay at a resort with little character but a great spa, this is your place. They had 3 weddings the weekend we were there, so the place was packed with lots of people and out of control children. We ended up staying only one night and moved to a beautiful, historical country manor and had a much better time.

Wonderfully warm greeting, nice room

Posted 28-Jul-2016
Pros: Beautiful grounds and friendliness.
Cons: Balcony smoking, training valet on cart loading, ensuring quirky tech things fixed (no res in dining room, music in that room was wedding dance music.
Location: As a resort, it doesn't matter where it is; however, it was more in Galgorm than Ballymena, and seemed like industrial park. Can drive tp Belfast.
Very helpful greeting by valet, who never did get the concept of piling large amounts of luggage on the cart (put three at time on three different carts (even after I suggested other options), which was completely inefficient and insecure for room delivery. Doorman offered to help upon our leaving, but by that time, we'd had a system organized for packing the car. We had even managed our own bags from the room, since we didn't want a repeat of the arrival. Room was nice and clean, but, pyramided balconies allowed us to see straight onto theim, and the smoke and noise from the one directly below made its way into our room.. We wanted to keep the french doors open all the time, except for this. In addition, a we wanted to hear the fabulous stream and waterfall on our side of the hotel. I can't criticize those who wish to use the balcony to socialize, because it doesn't go on and on, but the smoking should not be allowed on the balconies in these situations. This place specializes in weddings; we were told there were 13 weddings that week, with three that day. I thought the breakfast held in the fine dining restaurant was for them, but it turns out it is for people in the higher category rooms, much like Cunard does, and the rest of us breakfasted in the rustic multi level and very complicatedly laid out breakfast area. Out of 7 hotels in 2 weeks, this was ranked 7 on breakfast quality. A fair number of ambiance affecting quirks. Did get good reply from manager.

Beautiful Riverside Location

Posted 22-Jul-2016
I rate this hotel very highly. The location is superb and the staff were very helpful and attentive. The hotel has plush furnishings and decor and the grounds are immaculately manicured The only shortfall I could mention is that we stayed during the three hottest days of the year, (for Northern Ireland, probably the hottest this century!), but there was no air con in the rooms or the rest of the hotel as far as I could tell. The restaurants are excellent, serving a wide range of high quality food by efficient and attentive staff. The River Room restaurant, (which had allegedly been awarded 3 AA rosettes), however, was not to my taste as the portions were very small, the flavours did not really fit together well in my opinion, presentation was too fanciful with some items on the plate difficult to identify and the dishes were over priced. I appreciate many will disagree with me on this one and enjoy the "gormet" experience more than the actual food but this restaurant was not for us. For those wanting 'real' food pleasantly served, use the 'Gillies' restaurant or the 'Fratelli' italian restaurant on site which are excellent.

Treatment in Spa doesn't even warrant 1 star

Posted 29-Apr-2016 on Hotels
Happy wit all aspects of the hotel apart from how we were treated in the SPA. Where to Start…between times of treatments being changed without our consent which changed our tub experience leaving another couple to pay less, not pre-book and get our requested tub, to being basically called a liar when queried, we had to fight for things that were meant to be included and were treated like we didn’t matter over others. The spa itself is beautiful but our treatment doesn’t even warrant 1 star. Beware they also tried to charge us £20 for non-resident spa access even tho we were residents for 2 nights. We have since complained to Spa manager got a reply saying sorry and they were looking into it & will come back but 2 weeks later NOTHING. Our treatment ruined what was meant to be a special occasion. If you are going because it is a 5star spa, save the extortionate prices for somewhere with proper service.
