The hotel misrepresented their facilities. Hotels.com listing said they had exercise facilities and spa and they did not have anything.

This hotel was at a perfect location. I could not have asked for better. It does need updating, but there were amenities, so I did not have to ask for anything. However, the bed was the hardest thing I've ever encountered. Uncomfortable to say the least. A great restaurant close by called the Steak House a block or 2 down. I ate there twice!!The staff was so helpful and gracious from check-in to check-out.

Rooms are basic which is fine but need a serious update - carpet is extremely worn and smells really awful. In the bathroom there is mould round all seals and edges of the sink, broken tiles glued back on and generally felt unclean. Non smoking hotel but entire corridor smelled of smoke. However the staff were good and polite.

Only good thing to say is it is well located to visit Wanfujing st. However taxis won’t pick up there. Advertised bar never open. Staff limited support due to lack of English. Clearly aimed at supporting Chinese tourists.

Old and dirty Hotel
This is a old and dirty hotel. It looks grand and nice exterior but not the rooms. We had booked 2 rooms for a 3 days 2 nights stay, however, the rooms was run down, toilet was small and dirty, beds were hard and we were assigned to a sauna room despite the cold weather feeling hot and stuffy. However, a plus is the location is walking distance to various spot.

first of all, the advertised photo of my room is very misleading. i did not get the room as promised, and still waiting for partial refund. last time i check in the website, they still use the same photo. hotels.com need to really aware about this.1st booking with hotels.com in bali actually, we had the same situation.but the hotel change the room after that to meet the one that they advertise. but his time, he north garden hotel dont change our room to the one that they advertise and we agree to pay on. please take this seriously, or else the rest of customer will get fooled again from the promotion. secondly, the airconditioner is not cool.changed to 1 more room, but still hot. even its in winter, even after we open the window, for some reason, u still can feel the heat. the rest is ok.the location is great

Some good and some bad... but mostly bad
This hotel has many issues and I would not recommend it to anyone. From the beginning to the end of my stay, language was a massive barrier for the front desk workers. When I got to my room, everything appeared fine. It wasn't until I began spending a few minutes in there that I realized the sad truths: -the bed felt like a bunch of rusty springs, with no padding -the carpet *used to be* white... it is no longer -there was hair on the desk and night stands -the shower pressure made it a chore to take a shower - that is, after you waited 5 minutes for the water to heat up -the wifi was not working when I got there, but when I called down and said the wifi wasn't working, somebody came up and got it working -the refrigerator was broken, but when I called down and said the fridge was broken, somebody came up, hauled it out, and scavenged a different one from another room for me -I wanted coffee one morning, so I went down to the 5th floor buffet area, and they kindly gave me a free cup of coffee. Unfortunately, it was more like brown, coffee-flavored water On the morning of my flight I called down to have them get a taxi. I managed to communicate, "Taxi, 6:30, airport" and she replied with a confident, "Ok!" I came down at 6:30. No taxi. For $65 a night, I know I can't complain too much, being downtown. But all I really care about in a hotel is a good bed, good shower, and clean room. This hotel had none of them. They’ll get none of my business in the future.

Not glamorous, but cheap in great location
I gave 4 stars overall because this place really fit my needs, which was essentially a cheap roof over my head in a great area. The staff was very helpful despite my inability to speak even basic Chinese and the hotel is a block away from Wangfujing street with all the shops and malls you can handle. Room was dated but comfortable. The rock slab of a bed I found to be surprisingly pleasant as well. If you're traveling with friends, be aware of the translucent glass separating the shower and the rest of the room. Only real issue was the unreliability of the free Wifi. When/if I could connect, the speed was turtle at best. Even using the Ethernet cable behind the TV was equally slow. It's not the Hilton, but if you're looking for a cheap place to lay your head a few nights in walking distance of sites like the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square, then I'd recommend this place.

Besides Location, there's this hotel is not the best option
Like I said, the only thing I liked about this hotel was the location. It's close to Da Dong peking duck and also to a street market with beijing small eats. It's also very close to the train station and bus stops. The room itself isn't very clean and I had booked the deluxe room but it wasn't very deluxe. When I had asked about the bed size, they had only 1 size so don't get tricked into getting a king bed because apparently there's no such thing. Overall, the location was the best part about this hotel. Other than that, this is not a hotel worth looking into.

Good Location
I changed to this hotel midway through my trip because the service and the Wi-Fi at my other hotel was spotty at best. This was better, but certainly not fast. This hotel is just fine, dated, could use upgrading, but nice. Big rooms for the money, great location for shopping and close to the subway. I chose a business room and was given a suite on arrival. The bed is king size, very firm but comfortable. Tried the morning breakfast buffet, not worth the extra 100RMB, so if it's not in your package, go elsewhere, there are plenty of places within a two-minute walk. Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating, except for one guy, who I assumed to be the front of the house manager, as he was the only one not wearing a jacket. Anytime I would come to ask a question, he would immediately find something else to do, or simply call forward the next Chinese person in line. Again, fine, the others were friendly and spoke English well enough to help me out. I paid $72 including the taxes for this large room, it would be great for a couple staying an extend amount of time, because there is room to move around within the suite and you can stay out of each other's way. I'd stay here again.

location and tranquility in the middle of WFJ
We were up grated to executive suite which pleased us. The room was big but we really didn't use the extra space like the sitting area.Bathroom was small for an executive suite. We were given two bottles of water and slippers but everything else cost money. It was very close to WFJ MRT and WFJ pedestrian walk, and next to WFJ book store. It was a pleasant stay and we would return to it should we find ourselves in Beijing again.

Inexpensive Hotel, Great Location
I have stayed at the North Garden Hotel off the Wangfujing several times in the past. This time I stayed for six nights and had a satisfactory stay. The location of the hotel is fabulous as it is close to everything. Lots of restaurants and shops in the area. The metro/subway is in the Oriental Mall which is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. We stayed at the Hilton Wangfujing last year and it cost three times more than the North Garden. True, the North Garden is not the Hilton but it is clean and convenient. They still have not done the necessary renovations as I recommended in my last review. They did change the shower heads so unfortunately the water pressure is not as strong. The rooms are quite dated and the bed is super hard, like sleeping on a boxspring...but I slept surprisingly well. I stayed in one of the Executive rooms this time and it is an improvement from staying in the Standard room. Overall, if you want an inexpensive, clean hotel in an excellent location...definitely stay at the North Garden.

Location is it's saving grace....
Really the only thing I liked about the hotel was the location. There is a lot to do within walking distance and plenty of eateries nearby. The hotel itself is run down. The bathroom had a ton of hair in various places. The bed was very uncomfortable. Walls are thin. I don't like people in my room so I put out the "do not disturb" sign. When I got back to the room there was a note lying on the bed saying "since the do not disturb sign was out we did not clean your room." Kind of defeats the purpose if they're going to come in the room anyway.... Two days before my departure I told the front desk I would like to arrange transport to the airport. They took my name, room number, and desired time and told me how much it would cost. I arrived to the lobby early on my day of departure. The man at the desk told me to go outside and hail a taxi. When I told h it was supposed to be arranged he told me since he was the only one working he couldn't leave his desk and I would have to do it. I proceeded to go outside and try to get the can myself. Being a foreigner I was at the mercy of the can driver who proceeded to charge me 3x the normal rate. Not speaking the language it was hard for me to negotiate, this why I went with a hotel who bragged "airport transportation upon request." Bad ending to my stay...

I'm happy with my stay in this hotel. The room was situated in 10th floor and I have no problem with it. The staffs are excellence in such that their response towards any request were fast. I have no problem in communicating with them since they can communicate in English. If you need a map, you can obtain from concierge counter. The location of this hotel is the only benefit, but the hotel is not clean at all and. the bed is very hard. Don’t be surprised if you find Cockroach in the sink when you go to wash your face in the morning. Also somebody opened my room while I was in, he was Chinese and couldn’t understand what he is saying, I called the reception and they apologize and sent me some fruits beside the apology. Choke, Cough, Bricks! Avoid this hotel
The hotel value seemed good when booking and the pictures were nice. HOwever upon checking in the hotel was not clean. Even when floors were marked non-smoking people were lighting up like it was the 1950's....Im a non-smoker and by the time I checked out I was up to 2 packs a day in second hand smoke! The rooms wreaked and the linens were not changed. Our items were ruflled through in the room during cleaning. None of the staff spoke any english, not even rudimentary, so you couldnt get proper service or ask for changes. Once when requesting towels we got TOAST! Dont be fooled by this hotels rating it is not a WESTERN 3 star! The mattresses were not... they were box springs! By the time we left our backs needed overhauls. The windows would not close and there was an inch gap between the frame of the window and the window seal so there was always noise and a cold breeze coming in the room!

The North Garden Hotel
When I walked in to the hotel, I didn't felt welcomed at all. From the online booking and after consulting with the Hotel.com, I was told that i have to inform the hotel upon my check in that I would require a king size bed but instead when i did i was told no its twin sharing and i am not allowed to change what more request for breakfast. That was one. The second in between i was accused for taking one of their face towel. The face towel was left in the bath tub together with the other towel requesting the room service to have it changed. She must have collected it together without noticing and said I have to pay for the stinky face towel. I told her to recheck her trolley and it was there and she apologized. Upon check out, while waiting for my deposit, i was told that I had consume 'one sip' their chinese local mineral water and have to pay for it. I got really angry and demanded to see their manager. I have been getting my mineral water from the supermarket and if i wanted to why would i only take one sip. Its ridiculous. I am never going back to that hotel again in my next trip to Beijing. I dont recommend anyone to go to the hotel.

Excellent Location, Good Price
I have stayed at the North Garden Hotel several times in the past. I choose this hotel because of it's location and price. Other hotels in this area are about double or triple the price. My only gripe with this hotel is that it is in dire need of a renovation. The carpets are worn and stained and needs to be replaced or at least use of a good spot remover and deep steam cleaning. Also the bathroom definitely needs a total renovation. There are grout stains all over the shower and around the toilet. The shower curtains are old and desperately needs to be replaced. It's a good thing that I don't wear my glasses when entering the bathroom so I don't have to see clearly all the stains etc. Other than the need for a renovation, it's a great centrally located hotel. It's right off the Wangfujing, behind the large Wangfujing Bookstore. It's close to a bunch of shops and restaurants. It's a few minutes walk to the Oriental Plaza Mall with great shopping and a great food court downstairs. I love the Xiabo Xiabo Hotpot restaurants in the area. There are three to four of them in close proximaty to the hotel. The Wangfujing metro stop is in the Mall and is very simple and cheap to use. It's a leisurely walk to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City or one metro stop away. I do plan to stay at this hotel again next year but I do hope and pray that they see this review and do some needed renovations.

Decent Hotel Close to Everything
It is a decent hotel in great location. The hotel room, especially the bathroom need major overhaul. The bath tub is leaking water - the hotel did fix the leak after few nights we were there. I was able to pickup free Wi-Fi signal in the hotel room even though Wi-Fi is only available in the hotel lobby. Our room is facing the courtyard resturant, may be this is the reason why. Overall, if you don't mind a little run down room, this is a good hotel to stay in Beijing.

I WILL STAY AGAIN
Perfect position for first time travellers to Beijing. Easy walking distance to the best shopping street - 2 mins (MacDonalds on the corner), Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City (5 mins). Delightful staff who are very eager to please.. none more so than the Front Office Manager that organised tickets for us, at the last minute, to the Acrobatic Show and provided a note to the taxi drivers - in chinese - so they new where to drop us off. Loved my stay and I would definately stay again.

Centrally located for sights and shopping
The hotel is very well positioned, being just off the main Beijing shopping street and less than 5 minutes to the subway station, 20 mins walk from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Like previous commenters I have to say that the hotel needs sprucing up a bit, especially the carpets which were all grubby. The hotel staff tried being helpful, but they did not have much knowledge of english, so were limited. Finally I used the business centre to check in online for my flight back. The system is archaically slow, and could not print the boarding card or any other pdf file

Boy did I pick a great hotel to stay in, in Beijing. Fantastic staff that have a customer care attitude and where nothing is too much trouble, from the reception to the concierge to the restaurant waitress. Hotel is 2 minute walk to Wangfujing shopping street, 5 minute walk to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City.. so easy to tell the 'mad' taxi drivers that you need to be dropped off at 'Wangfujing Street' - despite the language difference, they know where that is!!

Convenient for Wangfujing shopping
Hotel is very conveniently located right at the south end of Wangfujing shopping street. Room was clean but the bed was hard, more like a Chinese business hotel than a tourist one. Hotel has a central atrium so noise from below carries up to the higher floors, especially for rooms that face right onto it. Not good if you want to take a nap during the day but actually it was not a problem at night. Some annoying music on and off during the day. Some advertised hotel features were not available during my stay. Front desk staff had passable English but calling other numbers such as housekeeping was hit and miss. Beware the taxi drivers lurking outside the hotel, they all wanted to go for fixed fee at a much higher rate than the actual metered fare. Hail a cab from down the block on the main street or ask the doorman to get one for you. Allow plenty of time during busy periods as it can take a while to get one.

North Garden is an old, but still good hotel in the heart of Beijing. Very convenient location with restaurants, shops, malls and subway station 5 minutes away. Even walking distance (15min) to Tian'amen Square and Forbidden City. The room was bigger than I expected, with a full bathroom, seating area, king bed (Hard, but still good) and vestier. Hotel is very conveniently located near Wangfujing shopping street and Wangfujing subway stop. Major attractions easily accessed by foot or subway. Beijing subway service easy to use and very reasonably priced. Local area restaurants, with good food convenient to the hotel. Not your 4 star hotel by western standards, mostly because of dirty carpet.... but otherwise clean for bedding and towels. Good value if you're not too picky.

Great location but the service is awful.
This hotel was very disappointing. The staff's grasp of English was barely adequate (in a country where all university student learn English), and their understanding of what is expected of a modern hotel almost non-existent. The physical aspects of the hotel were adequate if you exclude the toilet flush held together by a paperclip. The beds were ROCK hard. Compared to the hostels I stayed in in Shanghai and Xian this hotel was VERY expensive and offered inadequate services. HOWEVER, the location is excellent (but don't believe Expedia's map link - it is hopelessly wrong) right by the main shopping area and well placed for the metro.
