Barchem hotel guide
The Netherlands has a few spots that are particularly popular with its citizens. The Achterhoek is one of those regions, located in Gelderland, the Eastern part of the country and thus bordering with Germany. Barchem is one of the villages located in the Achterhoek which means you’ll be staying in a beautiful part of the Netherlands. The name Achterhoek comes from its location. The rough translation of Achterhoek is “back corner”.
Things to see in the Achterhoek
The Achterhoek has a rich flora and fauna, many local traditions and quite a few castles in the area. Exploring nature can be done by following one of the many hiking and cycling routes that are available at your hotel or the local tourist office. During your routes through the area, you might pass some of its unique museums. The Dickens Museum in Bronckhorst is a museum dedicated to Charles Dickens. The town even changes into a Dickens festival during the Christmas season. You can also find out more about another important historical figure, namely Piet Mondriaan. Winterswijk has a museum about his life and his artwork. However, learning more about the area instead of particular people is of course also a possibility. Doetinchem, for example, has a city museum which shows the origins of this town by a collection of archaeological finds, topographic maps and maquettes. Barchem and its surroundings obviously have even more to offer which you’ll also be able to look up using the (often free) WiFi in your hotel!
Hotels in Barchem
There are plenty hotels available in the Achterhoek of which a few are in Barchem. Since cycling is a favourite activity in this region, many hotels offer on-site bicycle rentals and even have maps available with routes you can explore. We suggest asking the staff for restaurant recommendations since they know best where you can try the tastiest local dishes.
