"resort fee" property. great staff and location
The pros: 1.Everyone who worked on the staff at the property were great! Lobby people, gondola people, maintenance, housekeeping, waiters and waitresses, the girls at the bar, drivers, greeters...everyone was friendly, courteous, helpful, knowledgable and awesome! 2.hiking trails and surrounding area were beautiful, mapped out well and enjoyable! 3.unique gondola trip up to the property. the cons: 1.THE RESORT FEE. This was already one of the pricier hotels around Banff. Let me know the real price of my room up front, OR please tell hotels.com the real price so they can tell me instead of the bait and switch on my last day while checking out. Maybe it was in the 70 page terms of rental agreement that no one ever reads when they book a room with hotels.com. Maybe it was in an email you sent me AFTER I booked the room that mentioned "a fee" which did not include a price, just a mystery "fee" that could be $5 or $105 or $505??? If it was mentioned...my bad. 2.walls were thin. the family next to me had a kid screaming and running around his room for 3 nights straight until 11:30-11:45 every night. It also sounded like they were throwing bowling balls around their room for some reason, lots of thumping and slamming of doors. I called the front desk to complain and they did try to quiet the family down. Thank you staff! 3."deluxe" mountain view not so "deluxe". 4. room a bit beat up.

It was fun to stay in a ski resort in summer. We loved being away from Banff which is so busy and crowded. We loved being able to hike in the mountaintop meadows. We were thrilled to see wolves crossing the road as we rode the shuttle very early one morning

Beautiful hotel on top of the mountain. Lovely staff, bed was comfortable and clean. Bathrooms are small, bathtub was clean, but there was a vent visible when you take a shower, I assume it was heater vent which was filled with dust and it wasn’t pretty. Also if you don’t have a car transportation is hard. Last bus from Banff to hotel base is at 5:20 and if you miss it taxi was close to $100 for 2 of us. But the area is very peaceful and beautiful.

There was easy access to/from the lodge via gondola and they also had a shuttle. It was quiet and relaxing. It was nice to get away from the congestion.

It was great experience. It was kinda far to get in the room. I gotta take the car or gondola to get in the room or get the car in the parking lot for 20 mins. But the room was great and the mattress was good for my back. Ive had back pain when i sleep if the mattress has bad spring but I could sleep very well. Thanks!

The hotel is located in altitude with many hiking trails at the doorstep taking you to wonderful vistas and unique views. It had all the amenities even a nice jacuzzi. Rooms are a bit small but when you look out of the windows, the view compensates for any shortcomings. The calm and the quiet is so welcoming especially after the crowd in Banff. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The whole thing has an alpine resort feeling, complète with a young crew coming from all countries. Can’t wait to be back.

Not a good summer location In Banff
Seems like a great spot if ur looking to ski in the winter but if you’re looking to stay there in the summer to visit Banff I would recommend other options. It takes about 15 mins to get from the parking lot to the lodge and you have to be driven up by their truck or hope the lift is running. If you need to wake up early before the lift is running you need to reserve a spot in the truck. We didn’t know this til we got their and missed a sunrise hike we booked/paid for because there wasn’t an open spot on the truck! All the staff were very nice and the place was nice but just not convenient for visiting in the summer

Please keep the following in mind to understand the review: 1. Sunset in this area is at a little after 10:00 PM (Late June/early July 2023) 2. Two way to reach the property: A. Through a Gondola that shuts down at 6:00 PM (4 -hours befoer sunset) and takes about 25 minutes to reach hotel from the base station. B. Shuttle ride (consists of two 7 passenger vehicle and one 11 passenger van that takes 20 minutes one way to get to the hotel.. In summer, it is nearly impossible to get back to the hotel before 6:00 PM to catch Gondola so you have to rely on Shuttle and at times you have to wait for more than an hour at the base to get back to the hotel. Restaurant has poor service. Most of the staff, while very supportive, is untrained so it takes fore ever to get food.

Convenient to Icefield Road and to Banff. A bit warm in the summer but were provided a fan. Great shower with hot water and pressure. Transport was quick and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. Couch is a bit solid and not made for napping or resting but good for visiting. The view from the balcony were great and wish we had more time to spend at Sunshine. Will recommend it to our friends.

Surrounded by peaceful beauty
We loved discovering this accomodation. We felt remote, yet close enough to Banff. The only thing is to watch for shuttle and gondola times. They don't run very eatly in the morning or very late at night. So better plan accordingly. All and all, a great place to stay.

Beautiful location up in the mountains with good hiking options. Dinners at the main restaurant were excellent and staff were great. If you regularly go off site, it becomes inconvenient to get from hotel to your car. While our room had ample storage, it was very small and there doesn’t appear to be any sound proofing as you can hear any noise or conversations from neighbouring rooms.

The stay was fantastic. Staff were friendly and accommodating- make it a point to speak to them and get their recommendations about food and places to see. Any hiccoughs they work diligently to fix, and in a timely manner. Food was delicious- try the salmon. Rooms were comfortable and easily accessible to the lobby. Hiking is easy to get to with the chair lift. Guides at the trail/ stairs are helpful and also act as naturalists (well, some of them). If you love nature, make sure you bring your guide books because the interpretive center is a bit sparse on those. It is inevitable there are some downsides- and I had to dig deep for these. The breakfast is overpriced (if the potato cakes were round the Hockey League could use them as pucks). The rooms don't have a/c; it might be helpful to supply rooms with fans to help with cooling off. The rooms do not have phone recharging stations so make sure you bring your a/c adapters and cords. And make sure you bring your bug spray!!! Back to the good stuff- make sure you ride the gondola a few times, you will enjoy the peace and quiet. Go to the s'mores events, they are fun. This is definitely a place to go to relax, breathe in fresh air, enjoy the mountains, and renew yourself.

Effort to access totally worth it!
If you are a hiker, this is a dream! One chair lift up and it’s a gorgeous top of the mountain hike. Loved the view from the top. This would also be perfect in ski season! Beautiful gondola ride up and back to lodge. Such a great place to avoid the huge crowds in downtown Banff in the summer. Just take the vans to town if you feel the need to get out of nature. We also loved the campfire and s’mores each night. Room was clean. Unfortunately no mini fridge and no microwave. This hotel takes some effort to arrive and depart. Anything after 6 pm is an ordeal as you have to wait for a van to drive you up a winding road. Same if you need to leave before 8 am, which if you’re going to lake Louis or Morraine lake in the summer is a given.
