The diverse yet reliably dramatic landscape of Ayrshire ensures a photo opportunity at every turn. On the Isle of Arran, which can be easily accessed by ferry on the mainland, adventure seekers can climb up Goatfell peak and be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding Firth of Clyde waters. A less demanding, but nonetheless visually stunning alternative, is to wander along the Arran Coastal Way and keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife.
Charming beaches line the mainland and island coasts, perfect for picnics, watersports and sunbathing (well, on a very good day - this is Scotland after all). Ayr Beach is a hugely popular choice that has both sands and grass to make use of. There is also a crazy golf course nearby and plentiful fresh fish eateries to devour catches of the day in.
The historical region isn’t short on fascinating ruins and castles either. Brodick Castle and Dean Castle are just two of the well preserved Medieval structures waiting to be brought back to life by curious visitors.
