Beautiful "Remote" location
First let me say our overall stay at the hotel was very good, but the value for the money? When we arrived at check in late afternoon, I was at first shocked when they told me that we could not have the cottage which we had reserved. However they graciously upgraded us to two upstairs rooms with a Lakeview at no additional charge. The rooms were Ichrachan and Tervine. Both were very spacious and nice. Had I paid full price for the rooms, I would have been very disappointed. I happen to also look at the cottage as we drove in, and I'm glad that we did not get that location, as it was a very long distance from the main house. Dinner was very good, although probably about 30 to 40% overpriced. The biggest issue I think for any traveler would be the extended drive on a single lane road through about 12 to 14 miles of countryside in order to arrive at the hotel. This does provide outstanding solitude. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel for someone who desires a tremendous amount of solitude, since the closest town of any significance is about a 30 to 45 minute drive away.

Nice views shame about the value
stayed for two days. Beautiful location and lovely building. However the cost was not value for money. I would think something around £140 per night for a basic room is more reasonable than the £230 we were charged. It is also in a remote location and you have to travel for miles down a single track lane which may be difficult for drivers who lack confidence or who may have disabilities. Food was also not value for money.

Not quite as good as we hoped.
We have been before two years ago and enjoyed so much that we went with friends . It is a fabulous location and in the middle of nowhere. The food , although good quality is minimal and after dinner with nowhere to go , we were hungry.

delightful location but eat elsewhere
Ardanaiseig is in a fantastic location set in its own grounds on the edge of Loch Awe. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the building is impressive with some interesting art. We felt they let themselves down, however, with a disappointing response when we drew their attention to overcharging for our breakfasts. We were charged for four cooked breakfasts (£16.50 pp) for each of the three days we stayed, when in fact there were only three of us and we only took the adequate, but somewhat meagre, buffet breakfasts (still priced rather generously at £9.50 pp). They bundled it all up into the room charge, so it was not immediately clear at the time of checkout what had been done. It took a frustrating number of emails in the subsequent days, during which we received a number of denials from 'reception' before finally getting the £100 odd pounds refunded. The dinner we took at the hotel was also expensive and very underwhelming. We recommend staying at the Ardanaseig but taking all your meals elsewhere Etive at the Taynuilt Inn (dinner only) is amazing, with a wonderful host, and significantly less expensive than Ardanaseig's restaurant, but make sure you book well in advance. The Kilchrenan Inn which is a little closer serves very decent gastropub grub.

When in heaven, don't leave
Location was literally the middle of nowhere, which was wonderful. Totally disconnected but treated so well and spoiled by the staff. The room was delightful, bathroom was comfortable, parking, wifi, food and drinks were perfect. Staff was adorable. We couldn't be happier and we will come back. Many more times.

Friendly, welcoming and full of character
We called to let them know that we would be arriving late. They took our dinner order on the phone so we would not miss the restaurant. We were met at the door and helped to our very comfortable room. We had been given a free upgrade. The staff were attentive, polite and helpful. Our room was fabulous. The hotel and grounds were gorgeous. It wasn't cheap but it was a memorable experience. We hope to go back sometime.

Fantastic views on Loch Awe. Stunning scenery all around but no surprise in the west coast of Scotland. Hotel was beautiful but won't be to everyone's taste if they like modern design and decor. Nice and remote, the nearest pub is a six mile round walk.

Fantastic retreat to the Highlands
We visited this hotel due to its location originally.10miles from the nearest main road the hotel is in a stunning location overlooking Loch Awe. Long walks, a day trip out and a swim in the loch fantastic couldn't recommend it's location more. Staff were excellent, hotel could do with modernisation in places but overall amazing trip and would go back.

Way out in the middle of nowhere
This is definitely not the place to stay if you are wanting to sight see in the area. It takes a long, long time to get to the hotel, and the nearest restaurant is at least 40 minutes away. Given the price and reviews, we had high expectations. However, in a month-long tour of the UK and France, this was definitely the most disappointing place we stayed. Ironically, it was also the most expensive. We stayed in bed-and-breakfasts and 4- and 5-star hotels the whole month - all surpassed this hotel for cleanliness, quality, and friendliness of staff. This hotel was pretentious, but without the quality to back it up. However, the hotel and grounds are in a beautiful setting, and the scenery around Scotland was definitely not lacking! Other highlights were hiking around the hotel. I'd only recommend the hotel if your focus is to enjoy the grounds and get away from it all.

If it were a home for sale, it would be a fixer.
The setting is remarkable. It's a long drive from the main road but peaceful once you get there. The hotel is the only local option for food, so, though service and food were very good it was a bit monotonous. There is a lot of deferred maintenance, many carpets were threadbare. Beautiful setting is a great mittigator.

Grand Victorian house in the widerness
It is a fine building at the end of a lovely drive and in a great location which ticked all the boxes of what we were looking for. Ultimately though we were left feeling a little disappointed by our experience. We only stayed one night for a brief getaway and having booked on line and seeing it was pet friendly we took our dog. A few things fell short of what we expected: Pet friendly - true ish but for an unannounced fee of £20 (what for ?? - it stayed in our room in a cage we brought) Dinner - hobsons choice of a tasting menu for £50 each (plus wine) - so we resorted to the steak pie in the pub 3 miles away. Breakfast was extra and while nice and served by lovely staff at £16.50 each wasn't worth it. At approximately twice the cost of the next competitive hotel around - and we expected more - a room described as with a garden view, while nicely decorated and clean was a bit of a dim box without any view worth calling as much. The whole hotel was too hot - (surprising I know) and though they have lots of wonderful open fireplaces there wasn't one fire alight on a wet February weekend ! Drop the temperature by 10 degrees C and light the fires and it would have been perfect. The gardens are very overgrown and sadly lots of scrap and rubbish (fire pits, plastic shotgun cartridge wads, scrap trailers, fridges old sinks and loos). With a little effort (and a lot of gardening) it could be a really great place to stay

Stayed in the Ardanaiseig hotel for a romantic night with girlfriend. She loved the place as did I. Really nice place (bit expensive) with lovely grounds around the lake. Ardanaiseig Hotel
Lovely hotel for a romantic break. Room was rather small, and heating was broken so had to use portable electric heaters... However, hotel and grounds are beautiful, and the food was outstanding - Michelin star quality. Driveway to the hotel is rather long and arduous, but more than worth it. Would definitely go back.

Family of 5 in Rose Cottage
Very peaceful and picturesque setting. Deer and squirrels a bonus! We booked fully aware 5 was stretching the space in the Rose cottage but fold out worked well even though cosy! Worth noting stairs up bedroom very steep and small if you have large/heavy luggage. Well equipped kitchen and dining facilities and having your own laundary is great for a travelling family.WIll highly recommend this accommodation to friends.

We ventured here on a whim, and had one of the most enjoyable evenings of our recent trip.-- due primarily to the people, as much as the place. Definitely off the beaten path, you need a little courage to meet the demands of the road leading in, but once there, you are off the grid and into a different reality. Thank you Robert for your expert guidance, and your lovely humor.

Nice place - not sure I'd stay again though.
We stayed here on our trip to Oban for one night. We were welcomed by cigarette smoke from some of the workers on the entrance to the hotel. The hotel is charming and our room was nice. We had to sit down in the bath tub to shower as there was no shower doors or curtain in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable.

Yes …. but no!
Nice place to be (a little far from everywhere), nice restaurant (nice staff but strange where you are telling "Hi guys!" as a welcome …) but, at that level of hotel, charging 11£ for a pic-nic bag with only 2 sides of poor white bread and a slide of ham with just an additional biscuit is a little bit too much!

Unik plats

Not worth the price!
Overly expensive. It seems as if you get trapped into a 5 course fixed menu, thus you do not have any alternative within a 5-10 miles radius. Rose cottage is disappointing at 265 £ a night, again excluding breakfast. It’s old and not very well maintained. No doubt the surroundings in this part of Scotland is supreme, - but it does not “allow” for the “out of order” price level of Ardanaiseig Hotel when the quality of such is lacking.

Vidunderligt sted
