A wonderful property. Elegant and luxurious. Full of the charm of an older era but with every modern convenience and comfort of a true 5 star hotel of today. The management and staff were outstanding . Beautiful setting overlooking Funchal and the sea, surrounded by very pretty gardens. A perfect holiday

Reid's Palace is the perfect mix of history and luxury. Loved our stay here, right from the moment we arrived to the time we left, all the staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Attention to detail is incredible and there were so many unexpected lovely touches - welcome cakes and drinks in the room, small gifts with the evening turndown service, water bottles at the front door to take when going out for the day to name but a few. The hotel building is amazing both inside and out, there are so many places to explore, the gardens are a must - we found our perfect shaded spot, away from the pools on our last day! The views from the terrace are spectacular and combined with Afternoon Tea it's an unforgettable experience!

Our stay was just wonderful. The staff were all fantastic. Room was gorgeous and the breakfast was beyond delicious, with a massive choice of what you could eat. The pool and surrounding sunbeds were beautiful - we didn't want to leave!

An amazing “classic” hotel perched on a cliff overlooking Atlantic Ocean. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful in any way possible. Rooms are large and the views are amazing. Will definitely come back.

Always a warm welcome. Very relaxing hotel with great bedrooms and other indoor and outdoor areas being very well kept and maintained. Selection of swimming pools which have good changing facilities. Everyone goes out of their way to greet you and to assist you in anyway they can. Extensive breakfast on offer both hot and cold. Noticed this visit that more allergies and food preferences were catered for. A few changes since our last visit in 2019, mostly positive like being able to make coffee in the room, not sure the scales in the bathroom are a plus with all the amazing food but for others I am sure this might not be a negative. Always a pleasure to stay here.

I highly recommend this hotel, it lives up to its 5 star rating… The staff are very accommodating. The room was very spacious, the one we stayed in was overlooking the garden. Breakfast buffet had a lot of choices.

Bedroom/Bathroom dated (the long slippery shower curtains in the bath are a bit of a hazard). This can be overlooked with having such a fabulous location and staff.

Pros: lovely swimming pools, stunning view over the sea, fabulous breakfast, very helpful concierge. Con: only one which is the room - a very small room with just a few inches between the desk and the bed which made the room feel very awkward and we almost asked for a new room entirely as this didn’t seem reasonable for EUR300 a night.

I have always wanted to stay at this hotel, it's always looked so elegant in magazines and it stands up to every expectation. Staff were wonderful, the food out of this world, and the pool a joy to swim in....I will return.

The property is beautiful- there’s so much history and charm, housekeeping is one of the best I have come across. The sea views and pool facilities are amazing. The only downside to the property was sometimes services was very slow ( like over 30 min for a bottle of water on a few occasions) and more importantly smoking is allowed everywhere outside including on the terrace. Being heavily pregnant this made me feel highly uncomfortable as the bar terrace was also the only place you can grab dinner if you didn’t have a booking. Reception was polite when I shared feedback but pretty much said that’s normal and expected. I would have expected for at least some areas to be designated for non smokers so that everyone can enjoy their food and ocean views.

We stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights. Our first visit and we absolutely loved the overall property and services they offer. Very classy and elegant. We celebrated our daughters 18th birthday with an afternoon tea, a must do. They room was very large, with ocean and island view. It felt like we were in Greece or cost of Italy. We also had a balcony which slowed to have breakfast outdoors and enjoy the gorgeous sunrise. I would say pack some insect repellent. We got bitten soo much that it looked like we had a second ankle or a knee. Bathroom fixtures are so beautiful and marble makes the entire room very expensive and luxurious feel. We had breakfast deliveries 2 times and the hot chocolate is my favorite! I will be comparing that to everywhere I go. Over all pastry basket, eggs, waffles and pancakes very delish. It’s worth the money if you are looking for luxury and class. We had the room which had 1 king size bed and a single bed with large closet, vanity sitting chairs and still had a lot of room to move around. Loved the history and architecture.

Wonderful!
It was really a fabulous trip and Reid’s is perfectly located to explore Funchal. The service was impeccable and the views are absolutely incredible. Highly recommend! My one comment would be that the rooms are quite dated in the style of a 1930s hotel but that is part of the hotel’s charm.

Staff was great, and the food was amazing (do the Taste of Madeira evening on the patio if you can). The only complaint was that the mattress was a little lumpy.

Heaven on earth
We couldnt hve loved Reid's Palace and the island of Madeira anymore. We spent all our time down by the ocean and enjoying the unbelievable free breakfast. 10 out of 10 - will definitely be back.

Reid's is a stunning hotel steeped in history and elegance, perched on the cliff above Funchal. The welcome is warm and professional and staff are extremely polite, but for a five star hotel, there's just something not quite right. Whether it's due to Covid or whether it's the fact that we've been spoiled elsewhere, there were a couple of things that stopped Reid's scoring 10 out of 10. The lack of drinks on the terrace or in the Cocktail bar before 3pm... the fact that the waiter in the Cocktail bar didn't have any wine knowledge at all, the fact that the so-called "hot" buffet items at breakfast were always stone cold and our breakfast went completely AWOL one day were issues that niggled us. On the plus side, the reception staff were amazing at printing off all my documents when my flights were cancelled, the room cleaners were exceptional and Cindy in William and at breakfast were superb! Cindy should be running the place! What a gem!
