Begin your travels in this vast region with a visit to the city of Antofagasta. Stroll along the city’s charming waterfront and watch fishing boats coming and going from the wharf. At the fishing harbour, you can watch sea lions, pelicans and seabirds being fed fish from the day’s catch. Visit a local fishmonger or a seafood restaurant to try some of the catch for yourself.
Visit geological formations at La Portada Natural Monument, which is an impressive coastal cliff comprised of volcanic rocks and fossils. Explore the vast beaches of Playa Grande when you check out the nearby town of Mejillones.
