The CitizenM is a little out from the centre, but the #5 tram runs from outside, past the museums and into the centre every few minutes - and there is cheap parking nearby. The hotel is a very modern concept (check out their website) with the relatively small size of room being compensated by its newness, quirkyness and great beds - and the large and comfortable communal area on the ground floor. Perhaps not the place for a week's stay, but fantastic for 2-3 nights. The staff are superb - really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

It's not central, but in Amsterdam that has many advantages of tranquility, lower cost and detachment from the city's seamier side. Expect a few 20 Euro taxi fares for sightseeing to classic attractions; however the Rijksmuseum is walkable, and the trams run quite close if you spend the effort to learn them. As an Expedia VIP, I was given one of the best rooms this time; but from previous experience, all the rooms are very satisfactory. The joker in the pack here is now the restaurant. It was creditsble before, but is now a "fine dining by small plates" affair with amazing quality and still quite reasonable prices. I predict a Michelin star before too long, it's that good, or at least, the need to book before your arrival to be sure of a table. The bar lounge is being refurbished and I suspect will be a knockout. However the stopgap outside bar was very pleasant in late summer, and I hope they keep it going seasonally in some form. I discovered the Bilderberg by accident on a business trip, when other hotels were full, and what a lucky accident for me.
The Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam is located at the scenic convergence of several waterways. Leisurely walks through the neighborhood are delightful. The hotel is within walking distance to many museums and restaurants.
The hotel restaurant is ranked among the best in Amsterdam.
The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. The Wyndham Apollo Hotel would definitely be my choice on a return trip to Amsterdam.
First of all, excellent staff, very clean and very convenient. The staff was very accommodating and professional as well as friendly. The location was very nice. You walk outside and you are at a tram stop that will take you directly to the center of town in 15-25 minutes depending on where you want to go (however being that close means tram noise periodically all night). There is a bakery around the corner and a grocery store one block way (same side of the street walking in the direction of the tram stops 1 block away). There are some restaurants nearby.
The cleaning staff always did a great job and made sure to get to our room no matter what time we actually ended up leaving it.
My only complaint is that the room was small and cramped. I am sure there are some rooms like in the pictures and some of the pictures do show small rooms however I was surprised when I walked in. The toilet area was very small and there was no tub just a very small shower stall. There was also no small refrigerator or microwave.
I will also say that most of Amsterdam seems to be built that way where the buildings are skinny and rooms are small.
We had a very pleasant stay at the Adelphi Hotel. We were given the quiet room we asked for overlooking the garden and away from the traffic noise. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and although there were no tea making facilities on our room the free tea, coffee and cake available in the bar 24/7 was a very nice touch. Our only small gripe was that our request to replace a light bulb that was not working in the main light was not attended to which made the lighting rather poor.
Spacious, clean room. Nice big bathroom. Friendly staff. Location was quiet as far as street noise goes. It was a little far away from things, but the tram stop was very close so we just rode it everywhere! My only gripe is that people were so loud when they came in at night and left in the morning. I didn't know there were so many doors to slam, but they slammed them all.

This apartment was spacious and clean and quiet. It was modern and well equipped including a dishwasher and washing machine. Plenty of room for a family of six. Free wi-fi was a bonus. Supermarket just down the road made self-catering very simple. Coffee and tea was provided and enough to last our stay. Plenty of hot water too. A member of staff met us on arrival and talked us through everything. We were also able to pay by credit card there which was handy. Much more convenient than having to go to a central office. Check-out was very straight forward too. The apartment was a bit out of the centre but easily accessible by trams 16 or 24. A great base to explore the city from.

This hotel was a bit strange to my American sensibilities. The room was small, but nice - however the bed and bathroom were an elevated "pod" structure that stood in the room. There was no door to the bathroom, and barely any room to sit on the toilet without my shoulder pushed against the shower glass. With the size of the room, there was no need for the bathroom to be this cramped, and there is zero privacy for using the bathroom facilities. This was a non-issue as I was travelling alone, but I wouldn't be inclined to pick this hotel while travelling with anyone. Perhaps other rooms were different - ask before booking.

The centerpiece of Amsterdam's burgeoning business district is the RAI: one of Europe's largest conference and exhibition centers, boasting theaters, huge conference halls, exhibition spaces, and regular contemporary art exhibitions. A stone's throw from the attractions of the city's Museum Quarter, the area is replete with fascinating post-modern architecture and wide open spaces.
