"Great location, good for value"
After getting off a 12 hour flight, I needed a last minute accommodation in Amsterdam. I have spent a lot of time in the city and know my areas, and Canal Boutique Rooms & Apartments was both available the same day for a one night stay and also close to my desired destinations. The room was small but clean and very comfortable, bathroom same. My only complaint was the noise- my room was situated in the interior light column and music was very loud from another room, and I also received a lot of noise from the stairs and hallway. Plusses- nice staff, instant booking, free Nespresso in room and in lobby.

"Great stay"
Great roomy apartment. One single master bedroom with a queen sized bed and one sofa couch (sleeps two but will be a tight fit). Towels and sheets (fresh out of the box) were provided. Owner of the apartment met us and was extremely polite and helpful. He was considerate and flexible as to when we arrived and when we planned on leaving. There is no "staff" and therefore no room cleaning since you are renting an apartment. Great location in the enter of town and easily accessible to the train station. Our apartment was above a bar so maybe it is not the best solution for family's with young children. Can hear music from the bar until about 1 am on week days and up to 3:30 am on weekends. Music not terribly loud but audible. Didn't stop us from sleeping and we greatly appreciated the bar being open almost 24/7 because it made us feel more secured and the bartenders were almost like the staff. They were extremely helpful and a couple even ate dinner with us and told us stories about the town. Overall a perfect experience and wonderful place to stay. Did have to pay cash up front but the owner gave a receipt so all went well. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good local place to stay at a good price and who wants their privacy and not bother with hotel cleaning people and other nonsense. Oh and the apartment comes equipped with a kitchen so meals may be prepared there.

"Nice rental unit in Amsterdam"
This was a very nice two bedroom, one bath, unit on the 4th level of a building. Reaching it required climbing lots of very tiny triangular shaped steps which is dangerous with heavy baggage. Once there, the unit was fully appointed with a large refrigerator, five burner gas stove, an oven that claimed to also be a microwave but I never used it. There is also a washing machine and a back patio only reachable through the master bedroom door - not the 2nd bedroom which was locked. The unit is a 5 minute walk from the Heineken Experience and a little father is a stop for the #16 tram that goes to the Central Station. The neighborhood is residential with restaurants and a full service grocery store nearby. I would consider staying in this unit again if I ever return to Amsterdam.

"Bad receptionist, bad start"
A friend and I were travelling with my toddler. We booked a twin one-bedroom apartment so the baby could be put down in the evening. We knew it was pretty far from Amsterdam but it was on a tram route. The receptionist was slow, kept interrupting helping to help other people. I was carrying a sleeping baby but no one helped with bags. The room was a double studio. I went back to reception. He said they'd upgrade me for a fee. I proved I'd booked a twin one-bedroom. He told me I could pay the fee after we were settled in. Excuse me? He was still attending to others over me. At one point I asked him to stop and help us. He was slow, rude, and inefficient. He finally went and got someone else, a helpful lady found us adjoining rooms because there wasn't a one bedroom available. We weren't charged extra. The room key cards for both rooms didn't work. The maintenance guy was very nice. The reception wasn't open very much, but they were helpful except that one guy. Their maps are hidden away in a drawer so you have to think to ask. The rooms we had were clean and had everything we needed. Our stay was fine once checked in. There's a little shopping centre nearby and the tram was ten minutes away. Good advice on the best tickets to buy would have been helpful, though. Also a bus to Schipol virtually at the door, which was great. I would recommend the place as long as they sort out their advertising and ensure they provide what they are selling.

"Great place for a group"
This is somewhat far from the centre of the city and/or red light district (30-40 minutes), but with the tram it only takes a few minutes and is very cheap. The rooms and comfortable beds are certainly worth the distance from the city.
