Very nice views and convenient for bus/taxi access

Posted 18-Oct-2016
Given difficulty of one way streets thru Positano, villa Gabrisa is very well situated in city. Very friendly staff, great breakfast, excellent outside seating overlooking the coast. Bus stops outside and easy to arrange taxis. Room was spacious and nice outside patio area. Pillows too hard was only downside.

Great location and exceptional staff

Posted 09-Sep-2016
We planned a last minute trip and really hit the jackpot with Villa Gabrisa. The location was higher in the mountain than we have stayed in the past so the view was always breathtaking. The staff were friendly, helpful and really added to our short stay. Room number 2 was very beautiful and filled with antiques. And lastly dinner was exceptional. Highly recommend and we will be back for sure.

Scenic views from the top of Positano

Posted 04-Sep-2016
Pros: We felt that the service was wecoming, friendly and personal.
We stayed at the hotel for one night to facilitate a short visit to Positano as part of a longer stay near Paestum further South. We received a lovely welcome from the reception staff which felt friendly and personal Our car was swiftly whisked away for parking at a nearby site and we were shown to two beautiful rooms with gorgeous terraces overlooking the bay. We ate at the restaurant, sitting outside for the glorious view. The food and service were good and reasonably priced for the location. We very much enjoyed our stay. Because the hotel is situated high up in the town it is a peaceful retreat from the business of the streets below. There are a lot of steps to negotiate however if exploring the town on foot, although the journey back up can of course be done by bus or taxi. We would certainly stay again.

Beautiful views..

Posted 31-Aug-2016
Pros: Beautiful suite.
Cons: An awning over the 2 suite balconies to protect from the sun. We found the balcony was unusable after 11am until about 5-6pm.
Location: Location is very high up on the cliff and even going down to the main square is tiring in the heat of the day. There is a bus that runs every half hou
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely weekend at the Villa Gabrisa and had paid extra for a suite, but was very disappointed to be told that despite the extremely hot weather, we could not use the fridge in the room to store our water or wine.

Great Family-Owned Hotel

Posted 20-Aug-2016
We stayed in Positano for 3 nights in mid-August 2016. We were on the 3rd floor of the hotel, in one of the 'basic' double or queen rooms. Pros - family owned and staff was very helpful; amazing restaurant on site (I think it is #5 or 6 in the city according to several lists I saw - with a 10% discount for hotel guests); amazing view with wonderful/private balcony; location was wonderful - out of the way of center of town but still easy access (at least on the way down); amazing breakfast spread each morning Cons - our room was quite loud at night and we were woken up between midnight and 2 am by guests staying in other rooms on the third floor, which was frustrating Otherwise, we had no complaints! The staff really made the stay great, and the views were incredible. The room was a little bit more out of date than I was expecting, but this was not a problem for us. The wifi also didn't work well in the room, but did work well in the common areas. Again, not a problem for us, but I mention it because I know some people rely on that to stay in touch with work. Also - be aware that the location might be considered a "con" to some. It is quite a far walk up if you are planning to go to the center of town or the beach every day. There is a bus that will take you back up but it only runs every 30 minutes and in peak season, it is very hectic trying to get on the bus. We loved the location, but just something to be aware of.

Horrible service, bad food, great room

Posted 12-Aug-2016
Pros: The room was lovely and the view breathtaking
Cons: The service miserable and the staff rude
The room here was outstanding. Lovely balcony with comfortable lounge chairs and a breathtaking view. That's the only positive. We started with dinner outside when we arrived. Main course was over cooked and mediocre. Starters unremarkable and the desserts were sent back. A lavender pudding and tiramisu that was truly tasteless. We eat out a lot and like excellent food. This failed. Waiter was rude and unhelpful which is the general attitude of the staff. On the first morning, we went to the buffet breakfast. Nothing hot. Small selection of meats and cheese. A large number of selections in packages! Mozzarella for example mimicked the dinner: tasteless and old. Coffee had way too much milk. Next morning we called down and asked to have breakfast up on our fabulous balcony. Lady was rude. Said that the selection was too large and that we should just come down and get it. She said they had no menu like other places and didn't know what to bring. We have stayed all over Europe and on the same request, we were just brought up a selection of the house. This was the most expensive hotel at which we stayed. The next day in Sorrento, the breakfast buffet had salmon, omelettes, fabulous pastries, meats, cheeses, bacon, fruits etc. A true selection. On check out, when we noted our issues, the woman dismissed our complaints and personal preference. Honestly, this place wasn't worth it. Stay away.

Beautiful hotel

Posted 09-Aug-2016
Pros: Modern and updated rooms. Friendly staff.
Cons: n/a
Location: The location is within walking distance to all transportation, restaurants, the beach & shopping.
Villa Gabrisa is an updated, clean, modern hotel perched on one of the hills of Positano. It's rooms are clean, spacious enough for 2 people and provides you with a balcony that allows you to enjoy the breath-taking views of the Amalfi Coast. It's only drawback is that it's a bit high up from the beach and, therefore, requires a 10 to 20 minute walk (depending up on your energy level and the time of day) to and from the beach. The tradeoff is that the higher up from the beach you go, the better the views will be. We spent 5 nights at Hotel Gabrisa and loved it. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Simple elegance

A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Perfectly positioned above Positano. A scenic 10/15 minute walk down into the centre of town and to the beach. A really wonderful base from which to explore this magical part of Italy.
