Amazing sea-front villa with heated infinity pool in Alonissos, Greece.

Waterfront Villa with private pool and kitchen
The Villa Ioanna is a gorgeous seafront villa on the south east of Alonissos (Sporades), an unspoiled Greek paradise that shares nothing with the trappings of mass tourism.

It is set in an olive grove on Tzortzi Gialos Bay - one of the undisputed jewels of Alonissos - and features luxurious rooms with panoramic verandas, modern furnishings, a heated infinity pool with hydro-massage just steps from the beach, private jetty, and a comprehensive list of comforts.

From the Villa Ioanna a private pathway takes you directly to the beach bay in just 50 metres. On Tzortzi Gialos beach (connected to the main bay) guests will find the Villa’s private jetty, complete with a buoy to moor a boat. Meanwhile the family-run “Tavern Tzortzi Gialos” - one of the best on the island - is conveniently located on the beach, serving authentic home-cooked Greek fare in a welcoming atmosphere.

Complete with lush wrap-around landscape and an all-pervading sense of nature and calm, Tzortzi Gialos Bay is the ideal location for recharging mind and body.

Etched into a deep bay, its fine white pebble beach and sapphire waters are framed by natural pine forest and colorful flowers, in a setting that oozes scenic drama. There is little in the way of noise, and the pine trees curved around the beach offer ample protection from the wind.

With a sandy seabed the water is unusually shallow - you’ll need to walk some way out to be able to really swim - making it fantastic for kids, as well as snorkeling. Because of the bay’s secluded location (6 km north of Patitiri port, reachable by boat or car) it is rarely, if ever, crowded, even in high season.

Lesser known than some of its more famous island counterparts, Alonissos is one of Greece’s last uncontaminated islands. Peaceful and packed with nature it forms part of the first ever Greek Marine Park, the largest marine protected area in Europe, and is home to the Mediterranean Monk Seal, the Eleonora Falcon and other rare species of animals.

The Villa Ioanna has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, as well as a small bedroom with a bunk bed, bathroom and laundry. The decor is fresh and bright, fusing comfort with cool minimalism and fine furnishings. The luxury sea-view rooms each have a veranda, while the Villa features a fully equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace and a generous veranda with an outside dining table (complete with spectacular sea-view).

Outside, amidst the olive trees and the scent of lavender, a heated infinity pool with hydro-massage overlooks the bay. The pool area is equipped with sun-loungers, a BBQ and a 12-person table, while the sofa area is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks. The pool is lit up at night along with the olive grove surrounding it, making for an evocative setting for laid-back dining.

Villa Ioanna can comfortably sleep 7 people and accommodate up to 11 by using the double sofa bed in bedroom 3, and the small extra room with a single bed.

5/5 Excellent

Lovely Villa/setting. Only complaint is that the pool is much smaller than the brochure suggests. An improvement would be to have a collection of DVDs and a satellite TV connection.

5/5 Excellent

Stunning location and view, charming, all amenities, private and self-contained, one of a kind.
Villa Ioanna is a special and unique property that blends tasteful character with comfort. Ideal for six people, but accommodating as many as 10 or 11 (that many would be a bit of a squeeze), it is extremely private and self-contained. We liked best the infinity pool and big terrace, and the private jetty and mooring at the bottom of the hill (where we kept a 16-foot (5m) rental powerboat for our two-week stay). House cleaners came every other day, the pool was cleaned and serviced regularly, and we wanted for nothing. Marco, the owner, is charming and very helpful, as is his on-site manager, Erika. Alonnisos is magical — untrammeled by tourism (there is no airport, so it takes a bit of effort to get there). You’ll need a car, or two, and maybe a scooter, though I’d recommend an ATV over the scooter, as driving on the island is not for the faint of heart. Lots and lots of quiet beaches to discover, great hikes... If you’re looking for nightlife, find another island; if you want to see what Greek island life “used to” be like, come here. I’d do it again, and stay at Villa Ioanna, in a heartbeat.
