This was a great airport hotel. Easy to get to by taking the orange taxis from the airport, the hotel pays for the taxi and the taxi's expect this. We arrived in the middle of the night with two small children and the transport felt very easy and secure.
Comfortable room, quiet, hot water, wifi and good breakfast.

Hotel Robledal is a family-owned and operated hotel within just a few minutes of the San Jose airport (shuttle provided at not charge. Our room was large and very clean and had and modern heat pump, which, of course meant it had environmentally friendly air conditioning. There is also a nice pool to keep cool on a hot Costa Rican afternoon. We stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica because of the free shuttle, but owner/operator Victor and his sons Emanuel and Josua were wonderful hosts, allowing us to park our luggage well before check in time so that we could visit Zoo Ave (a wonderful attraction in Alajuela). We had a wonderful "last" dinner at the attached restaurant, and were provided a sack lunch with sandwich, fruit and juice for our early morning departure the next day. This was also gratis, due to the fact that we were forced by our early departure to miss the included free breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here on the last night of our 2 week vacation in Costa Rica. We wanted to avoid driving into San Jose before our flight home. We arrived at the hotel early but were able to check in without a problem. The grounds of the hotel were lovely and made you feel like you were in the jungle, not right next to the airport. Although you can hear planes flying overhead as with any airport hotel.
We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel which was quite convenient but just okay in terms of quality.
The gentleman working the front desk on the morning of our check out helped us arrange for the car rental company to come and pick up our car so we didn't have to do any stressful navigating on the day of our departure. He went above and beyond.
This hotel has everything you could want for a comfortable and safe stay near the airport unlike the airport hotels. The time I stay at the Buena Vista is a large part of my vacation and not a place to bide my time before I start traveling around the country. The view is breathtaking, and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. I look forward to being in a safe, beautiful, and easy environment where everything I want and need is provided graciously when I travel and this hotel does this easily! All rooms are lovely and renovated but for luxury check out their villas which are spectacular! I would recommend this place to anyone that loves beauty, service, and serenity!
So happy we began our visit to Costa Rica at Xandari. The staff is wonderful, helpful and we felt like family. The food is excellent, the grounds magnificent and you can even do a fairly adventurous hike on their grounds to see waterfalls. We will always begin or end our trip to Costa Rica at this hotel.

Asclepios is a good get away with friendly staff, a pretty location, well maintained grounds. The spa services are reasonably priced (relative to the US) and the food is ok (although the menu is somewhat limited). The included breakfast is a fruit plate, bread (some good whole grain breads), and nice teas... if you're typically hungry in the mornings, they do offer an extended menu, but expect to pay extra for breakfast.
Location wise, you should understand that this hotel isn't centrally located for most of the tourist stops... so if you want to head over to Poa (Volcano), Doka (Coffe), Downtown San Jose (Museums), etc... anticipate some expenses related to transportation (ask the front desk to call Milton - excellent taxi driver - tell em' Anthony and Silvia said hi). There really isn't much around the hotel in walking distance (this includes ATMs, Grocery stores, etc...)... so also plan accordingly.
Our room was nice and spacious, with a pretty view, a water carafe w/ mint every day... overall pretty good. It should be noted that the walls are pretty thin and sound travels (though most people are pretty quiet). Our room (Weng Ching) had one oddity... the switch for the fan/ light, also operated the light in the adjacent room... which lead to a few late night surprises... part of the adventure.
Everything was nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and eager to help. Breakfast was as expected and very good! The grounds, although a small hotel were beautiful and well kept. The shuttle wasn't at the airport when we arrived, but several people outside contacted the shuttle for us and took us there. We were pretty much under the flight path for the airport so, sometimes loud. All in all...great hotel which we were more than happy with and would recommend especially for the one night we were in San Jose!
The city of Alajuela is in Alajuela province, 20 km (13 mi) northwest of San Jose and just 3 km (2 mi) north of Juan Santamaria International Airport. Many visitors to Costa Rica stay here on their way in and out the country. Colonial architecture is still evident in the city center. The central market, covering an entire city block, is a great place to buy souvenirs.
