"Overnight wedding stay"
We stayed 1 night to attend a nearby wedding. despite giving 1 week's notice that we would like early access to our room it was not ready at 1.00 and we had to change in the golf locker rooms. Not good given how much the stay cost. We then paid for breakfast(2 x £17.50) knowing other guests had this in their deal. Not our first mediocre experience of McDonald Hotels and we have long resolved to use them as little as possible.

The Coppice

Borthwickbrae, Hawick - Map

"Rural comforts"
The Coppice is a comfortable farmhouse property; in fact, its furnishings and fixtures are quite modern and stylish. The owners are friendly and obliging, and the "full English" breakfast was as good as it gets. The property is located about five miles by a single track paved road from the A7 south of Hawick, and the countryside is quite lovely. Hawick itself is a drab place with few decent restaurants, and getting dinner can be a problem unless you ask the proprietors in advance to book you at one of the better places. Our room was on the small side, comfortable and cozy but perhaps with too much furniture, and the bath, though separate, was adjacent and quite modern. The WiFi connection was via a service provided by British Telecom which appears to be ubiquitous in smaller inns in the UK, a difficult to use poor connection in rural locations which, whenever i tried it, was useless because secure internet sites, online email for example, would refuse connection.
