We chose this hotel for it's superlative location so the tired Old England Hotel was never going to disappoint. We found it amusing at first that the kitchen couldn't give us baked beans with our Full English Breakfast but that paled after two mornings. From this location we were able to visit Kendal, ...

I know this has nothing to do with the hotel but the noise of the night club near by was unbearable, and the people in the passage way shouting at 1.00 pm. I would only recommend this hotel during the week due to the noise. The room could do with updating in particular the bathroom.
Family celebrating our golden wedding, 11 and a baby had wonderful break at the Riverside, the hotel is in a great position on the river with river views from our rooms. The rooms are large and and well furnished and every area is clean. Staff are lovely but very disorganised. Needs better management ...

Pretty hotel with excellent facilities and a friendly staff. Comfortable bed, but with a scratchy sheet, in a very small room.
I thought the hotel was excellent as was the food and service. My only disappointment was the single room was tiny and my bathroom was next door and not ensuite. There was also a problem with the drawers in the cupboard which I couldn't use. I'm sure the double rooms that are ensuite are much ...
Holidaymakers looking for a slice of the great outdoors couldn't do much better than the dramatic, breath-taking county of Cumbria. Not only is Cumbria home to the idyllic Lake District, but it also contains parts of the Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. From gentle country walks to all-out extreme sports, Cumbria can satisfy the needs of even the most discerning traveller. Part of the reason for Cumbria's popularity as a holiday destination is the broad range of four-star hotels, which pepper every corner of the picturesque county.
Cumbria's coastline is often forced to play a supporting role to the world-famous Lake District, but it's still something special in its own right. Looking out to the west, tourists can enjoy glorious summer sunsets over the sea. All year round, they can benefit from the coast's numerous fine golf courses.
Irton Hall offers guests the best of both worlds, providing close proximity both to the lakes and the seaside. The four-star hotel is set within a charming period property, surrounded by peaceful gardens and expansive lawns. The family-friendly hotel is ideal for those keen to explore the county by car. The nearest seaside resort is Seascale.
The most luxurious hotels in Cumbria offer extensive facilities, many of which are designed with the sole aim of relaxing guests. The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa is a particularly tranquil spot, located in Grasmere, just minutes from the popular lakefront.
The hotel's spa features a wide range of treatments, and centres round a stunning indoor pool. There's also a fully-featured health club for those keen to stay in shape during their time in Cumbria. Less active types can find a comfortable space in the hotel's own library.
Wherever you are in holiday, food is sure to play a central role. In Cumbria, visitors can treat themselves to a variety of fresh local produce, from crunchy vegetables to tender meat and the local honey, which is truly delicious!
Food is a top priority at Beech Hill Hotel and Spa. Burlington's Restaurant serves up a fabulous menu created personally by the hotel's renowned chef. As the restaurant is a popular establishment in its own right, guests are advised to make bookings in advance to avoid disappointment.
Four-star hotels aren't just ripe for leisure. They are also popular with professional guests who are keen to impressive prospective clients. Some of the larger hotels in Cumbria also host industry events such as conferences and exhibitions.
WiFi is an essential facility for business guests. Fortunately, just about every guesthouse and hotel in Cumbria has this as standard. What the best business hotels in the region offer is specific space, which is suited to professional occasions.
Macdonald Leeming House at Ullswater is an excellent venue for corporate events. The numerous meeting rooms are equipped with state of the art technology, including all manner of AV equipment. The restaurant is capable of catering for large banquets, and there's even a spa to relax in after a hard day's work. The nearby lakefront is perfect for clearing the mind!
