Pocket Guide: 4 Stars Hotels in Bangor

The seaside resort of Bangor is regarded as one of the most desirable places to live in Northern Ireland. If you want to make the most of your visit to this well-heeled, fashionable town why not indulge yourself and enjoy a luxurious stay at one of its four star hotels?

Most of Bangor’s hotels are centred around the revamped seafront and the marina, the redevelopment of which has really helped boost the town’s fortunes.

Luxurious Hotels

Bangor’s growing reputation as an out-of-town base for city commuters has seen it compared to Brighton and, with a cosmopolitan crowd to cater for, it has a choice of hotels offering great standards of accommodation.

The hotels lining the seafront enjoy some fantastic views of Belfast Lough and provide a great base for exploring the beautiful coastline of County Down.

You can soak up the sun in the pretty hotel gardens or, if you’re feeling a bit more energetic, you can stay in one of the hotels with fitness facilities. If you’d rather be pampered during your stay in Bangor, check out one of the hotels offering spa and beauty treatments.

Hotels by the Sea

Situated just 13 miles from the centre of Belfast and well connected to the capital by rail and road, Bangor is an ideal base for exploring County Down and the rest of Northern Ireland.

The name Bangor is derived from the Irish word “beannchar”, which means a horned or peaked curve and, sure enough, if you look along the coast you’ll see that the bay in which the town sits resembles the horns of a bull.

It is, in essence, a Victorian resort, but there are attractions revealing a deeper history. The old castle in Castle Park is home, amongst other artefacts, to the oldest surviving Irish manuscript while the nearby fishing village of Groomsport has a pretty harbour overlooked by a row of cottages, one of which has been restored to reveal how a fisherman would have lived in years gone by.

Hotels for the Whole Family

Bangor, with its impressive mix of pubs, bars and restaurants, has plenty to offer when it comes to attracting adult visitors, but youngsters will love it too. There are, of course, all the usual things you’d expect to find in a thriving seaside resort. Once you have relaxed on the beach and taken a boat trip from the marina, check out the Pickie Family Fun Park and its rides, amusements and steam train. If you want to venture a little further afield head to Ballyholme Bay. Located east of Bangor, it has a lovely stretch of beach surrounded by green open spaces that provide an ideal play area for youngsters.

Four Star Hotel Treatment

Bangor has so much to offer and it makes sense to ensure you get the most from your visit to one of Northern Ireland’s finest towns. Treat yourself to a stay at one of its four star hotels and you’ll be sure to leave with some unforgettable memories.
