"A hidden gem, set in beautiful grounds."
A hotel building with character and history set out in beautiful grounds. The hotel is close to Edinburgh for shopping and sightseeing, the area in general is aplomb with history Edinburgh Castle, The battle of Prestonpans the Nights Templar site to name a few. The surrounding areas are suitable for walking. The sea and sands that lavish the east coast are nearby and these are easily reachable by car. Quality golf courses are numerous and abound the area and there is excellent sea and river fishing available.

"Take note this is at a golf course hotel"
Overall our stay was ok but we were consistently made to feel as though we were outsiders as we don't golf. Small things like being given a table that wasn't convenient to eat at as the others were reserved for the golfers. Being seated at the table that didn't have flowers on it. It seemed as though it was a signal to the staff that we weren't part of "the group". Since we are both in our sixties and certainly fit in with the majority of the golfer age group it was almost like being back in junior high school and not being a part of the popular kids. Not something I would want to repeat and certainly have never felt at other hotels or B&Bs. The actual building was lovely with almost a North American feel regarding lots of space. We had a walk in shower and the towels were fresh and fluffy. The food was mediocre. I tried the Scottish potato scone and couldn't eat it as it was very greasy. They did have nice stewed prunes. We enjoyed the proximity to some lovely sandy beaches, but we had to find out about local points of interest on our own.

"An unexpected delight"
We didn't know what to expect so we were thrilled with the vilage and the hotel. Something different from the large impersonal hotels. A great experience over three days.

"Charming hotel"
Ducks Kilspindie is charming, old style, with lots of original features. It's popular for golfers, we found, and for us car enthusiasts too! The restaurant was upmarket; dinner was divine. Breakfast included in the price was brilliant too. Great location, handy for touring the area. We'll be staying there next year for our car show at the Museum of Flight again. Lovely time!

"Great hotel, a short walk from the beach."
We had a lovely stay at the Nether Abbey. It was my wife's first trip to Scotland, and I had not visited for over 20 years. North Berwick is truly charming and we found a warm welcome wherever we went. The hotel was perfect in every way, very clean and tidy, as were the rooms, which were comfortable and airy. The staff, without exception, were fantastic, friendly without being over-familiar - a VERY fine line... They are all a credit to the Management, and if they are reading this review, "thanks, guys!" There was a varied and interesting menu, and the dishes were of an extremely high quality, both in ingredients and execution. It is cliche to say that the best steak comes from Scotland, but in this case it happens to be true - meat lovers would love the Rib-Eye with Whisky and Mustard sauce (unashamed foodie here, as you can tell). My wife and I have stayed in hotels all over the world, and this establishment could easily rank with any of those. We had a fantastic time and would recommend the Nether Abbey WITHOUT hesitation. I hope that we can go back one day.

"Attending the Edinburgh Tattoo, where we stayed"
Only a few miles off the A1 northbound, location ideal for Edinbugh without being actually near to the city, alas the post code and our Skoda satnav, left us confused and 1/4 mile off where we wanted to be, but at least on the right road. Nice location, with reasonable parking able to accommdate the wedding reception "full Scottish attire" on the Saturday. Stayed for two nights, first night in a small room not to our liking and not as booked, but were received a credit and were moved for Saturday evening, to a room of size and spec. we had expected. Accepting the Saturday wedding reception and our return from the Edinburgh tattoo Sunday morning, we were kept awake until gone 2am by guests simple talking in the lounge one floor below and off from the reception, to be woken by a hover at 6am wasn't appreciated. We only had breakfast at the hotel, everything provided as might be expected/

"Best hotel stay ever "
I adore this guest house!! Such a lovely place with very kind staff. We got bunked up to a more spacious room with en-suite just because we were the only ones staying in the guest house for no extra charge. Staff were very accommodating and helpful and I can't wait to stay there again. Angie

Pocket Guide: Edinburgh East Lothian 3 stars Hotels

Prosperous agricultural East Lothian lies due east of the capital. Haddington, the county town, is rich and handsome, and due south the Lammermuir Hills are home to some charming villages. North Berwick, a genteel Victorian-Edwardian resort half an hour by rail from Edinburgh, looks onto Bass Rock, home to over 100,000 seabirds. Gullane ('Gillin') houses the Muirfield golf course, while nearby Musselburgh is the region's busiest racecourse.
