The good - Staff polite, friendly and helpful; bed comfortable; hallway smelt like gummi bears; excellent breakfast buffet; nice bar available in evening; very close to central train station.
The bad - Room rate included free wifi however this was an excruciatingly slow 256k speed which was not advised at booking time (luckily you can pay for faster wifi); room too cold in early winter with heating turned right up; perhaps not hotels responsibility (not sure on this) but footpath outside of hotel very slippery with winter ice and had not been gritted.
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our experience here.
The service was excellent (they let us borrow outlet converters (us-Europe) and gave us directions to the airport).
The location is prime, as it is a short distance from everything, while far enough to assure a quite rest when needed.
Hotel is about 5 - 10 minutes walk from the HB( main train station ). The hotel is within the vicinity of the Old town square and other sights where most of the major Christmas markets, and shopping malls are located.
This hotel would have been rated with a higher " star" except, 1) the bed we had was too small for 2 people, very soft that every time my wife(135 lbs) turns, the whole bed moves. 2) Room temperature was too hot. No thermostat control in the room. I saw a lot of other windows open from the out side, but then, when you'll leave it open at night, you'll hear a lot of noise from the street. 3) I wish they had a refrigerator inside the room.
This hotel works, that's all I can say. Hotels in Dresden are very expensive, and the Ibis are the cheapest in town. Very basic room, small bathroom, smaller shower, correct but curt service (after all, it's Germany, isn't it?). Not the nicest part of town, but if you want the beautiful old baroque neighborhood expect to pay at least twice as much. On the other hand, if you are arriving by train, hotel is only a 5 minute walk.
