Muentzgasse is the old heart of Dresden and that's where you are , turn one way and you are by the Frauenkirche turn the other and you walk onto the steam paddle steamers on the Elbe. Very comfy, felt at home, nice bakery nearby to get breakfast rolls etc
This hotel is nicely located with just 2-5 minutes walk from all the places in old city. Facilities are newly renovated with parking nearby. Lots of nice international (thai, argentanian, italian etc.) restaurants just on the back of hotel. Only issue shower was in the room was in open with no doors, so if you are traveling as a family/group where you need privacy while taking bath, this poses interesting challenge.
We chose this hotel because it was 5 mins from Eurolines coach stop, near the sights of interest and it turned out even better as it was along a sort of shopping mall/arcades with a cinema showing Original Language films. The hotel was non-smoking, clean, our room was standard size, just enough space, but the best thing was that the two large windows opened up wide and so no stuffy room to endure. As it was warm and still at night and we were on the 8th floor we just kept a window open wide all night rather than use the air con. Buffet breakfast was very very tasty with excellent scrambled egg! We had a fabulous 4 nights here.
This hotel works, that's all I can say. Hotels in Dresden are very expensive, and the Ibis are the cheapest in town. Very basic room, small bathroom, smaller shower, correct but curt service (after all, it's Germany, isn't it?). Not the nicest part of town, but if you want the beautiful old baroque neighborhood expect to pay at least twice as much. On the other hand, if you are arriving by train, hotel is only a 5 minute walk.
