"Nice hotel, overlooks the river"
This is a modern hotel within easy walking distance of central York, next to the bridge and directly opposite The (over)popular Kings Arms Pub -famous for flooding (maybe why hotel has car-park on ground floor) lovely views but only one little underused balcony to enjoy them. The room (top floor) was comfortable, decor a bit chintzy; only had liquid soap in bathroom, tiny TV, no air-conditioning. Basic. We went to the York comedy festival, lots of fun - there's always something going on in York!

The Fort Boutique Hostel

"Cosy hostel in the centre of York"
We were welcomed and checked in very quickly - he offered to take our suitcases upstairs too. Our double room was very spacious and comfortable and looked right onto the market street. It was high enough that we could barely hear the music from downstairs (earplugs are provided if necessary) and the decor made it feel as if it was our own little apartment. The best thing about the hostel is how cheap it is in comparison to hotels, clean towels are provided every morning, discounts are on offer for Kennedy's downstairs, and it is right in the centre of York; Evil Eye is about a minute walk away!

Pocket Guide: North Yorkshire York 2 stars Hotels

Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
