"Very good hotel"
Our overall view of this hotel was great and awarded 4 stars. However, the only reasons it didn't get 5 was because of the dirty carpet in the room, though the rest of the room was pristine, and we could have really done with 2 pillows each instead of the normal one.

"Amazing breakfast!"
I was a late booker for a bank holiday weekend night so ended up in a single room, which I really dreaded but turned out to be a very comfortable night's sleep. The room was absolutely fine but the walls are thin and I could hear the chap next door, snoring and using the bathroom! The best bit about this hotel is the breakfast, it was the tastiest I'd had in a whole month of staying in B&Bs. I ordered a fruit platter, which was stunningly presented and scrambled eggs and mushrooms, both really delicious. I couldn't get a table to eat dinner in their restaurant until after 9pm (the night before) so went elsewhere and wished I had waited when I saw their vegetarian menu options!

"Cosy and comfortable "
Checking in was easy and the owners were genuinely very friendly and pleasant. Our room (room 2) was in the main house and was very cosy and comfortable. There were plenty of tea and coffee sachets (including decaf coffee which is the only coffee I can drink and is rarely supplied) along with biscuits and milk pots. There was also a note in the hotel info that fresh milk can be supplied if one asked (nice touch but I'd bought my own). It was a little difficult to reach the plug sockets by the bed for our short phone charger cords but we pulled up the extension lead behind the pine drawers and used that. The bathroom was clean and spacious with lovely white fluffy towels and a decent shower. The bed was really comfy with good pillows and a big soft duvet. Breakfast next morning was busy but all the cooked elements came in a timely fashion with the offer of extra toast and a caffetiere of proper decaf coffee, excellent.

"Perfect place from which to visit Salisbury."
This was the best experience of our four week trip. It is the dormitory of a theological college, so the facilities are a bit spartan, but quite comfortable. We had a room with a beautiful view of the cathedral, which is 200 m away. The wifi is the best I have experienced in a hotel, and there is free parking on site. The staff are all very nice and appear to be associated with the role of the college, so that adds a nice dimension. Very good full buffet breakfast, with interesting people here for theological seminars. The building is inside the Cathedral Close; to enter by car, turn down High Street towards the Cathedral. It looks like pedestrian only, but is used by cars. Otherwise, you will drive around fruitlessly as we did for a while.

"Excellent B&B right on cycle route 4"
It was great to find such an excellent, well located, reasonably priced B&B so close to the Kennet and Avon canal, as we needed an overnight stay while cycling from Newbury to Melksham. The B&B was very clean and comfortable (v comfy beds), in a separate house with its own kitchen in a quiet corner of the pleasant lawned grounds of the thatched Royal Oak pub. The dining room there was very handy for a good veggie burger evening meal (extensive menu for meat eaters, plus huge range of puddings). No issues with noise from the pub. The staff were friendly and helpful, offering to lock our bikes away safely overnight.

Pocket Guide: 2 stars Hotels in Wiltshire

Holidaymakers from all over the country flock to Wiltshire year after year to sample its plethora of unique treats. The beautiful and tranquil countryside makes an ideal environment for a leisurely walking holiday. Elsewhere, the bustling market towns are packed with exciting attractions for all the family. The wealth of two star hotels in Wiltshire means that the county's delights are open to everyone, no matter what your budget.

    Walking Holidays in Wiltshire

Wiltshire is an almost exclusively rural county, with only a handful of large towns and just the one city. As such, there's plenty of open countryside to be explored on foot. The North Wessex Downs are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which are particularly popular with ramblers. The rural parts of the county are punctuated with fascinating prehistoric landmarks, which add an element of intrigue to the already impressive landscapes.

Avebury Life B&B is an ideal spot for walkers keen to check out some of Wiltshire's prehistoric attractions. There are a number of unusual and fascinating things to see at Avebury, including an elaborate and mysterious stone circle. This charming and friendly B&B is just one mile from the stone circle, and Silbury Hill isn't much further. Stonehenge can be reached by car or via local public transport.

    Nightlife

Most visitors to Wiltshire come in search of peace, quiet and country walks, but that's not all there is to this south-western county. Unsurprisingly, it's the county's only city - Salisbury - that offers the best nightlife, although there's also a generous helping of bars in Swindon, which is also home to plenty of affordable two star hotels.

The White Hart offers traditional accommodation in Swindon, with a complimentary breakfast to sweeten the deal. The Campanile Swindon offers another affordable option, just outside the town centre.

    Sightseeing in Salisbury

It's not only the nightlife that draws tourists into the medieval city of Salisbury. There's also plenty to see and do. Salisbury Cathedral is undoubtedly the main event, but visitors should also look out for the Salisbury Museum, Old Sarum and, of course, Stonehenge.

Sarum Cottage offers some delightful two star accommodation near the centre of Salisbury. The gorgeous period property features a library, lift and free WiFi - great for planning each day's itinerary before you leave the hotel.

    Don't Compromise on Wiltshire Hotels

Two star hotels in Wiltshire may offer astonishing value for money, but that doesn't mean they need to be basic. Many of the county's two star offerings actually offer something pretty special. The Shaw Country Hotel is a pretty property surrounded by picturesque gardens. Despite the intimate accommodation, which comprises a modest 13 rooms, the hotel boasts an impressively large conference space, as well as a private meeting room.

Damson Cottage B&B is a magnificent building located in Reybridge, a short way outside of Chippenham. The B&B offers a free breakfast, fast internet and free parking. This makes it an ideal choice for visitors who have their own vehicle. From this pretty, rural location, there's plenty of opportunity to get out and explore the rest of this spectacular county.
