"Front desk guys really helpfull- worth stay!!"
The hotel is veru clean and beds are confortable. We stayed in a bunk bed, really clean and nice. DO NOT expect much space in a room like this, so just use it to sleep and out!! Almost no space for the bags...forget shopping. However the helpfullnes of the gueys in the front desk, for shuttles, buying tickest, and recomending places, giving addreses, etc was really worth the entire hotel experience in the Belnord. Locatios is OK, upper west is not really near most landmarks, but there is a really close subway station.

Rooms are small just like other reviews state but well worth saving the money . Definitely would use them again. Staff went out of their way to be accommodating.

"Not bad for a couple of nights."
Rooms were clean, mattress was old and worn out, made noise when you layed down on it but not uncomfortable for a couple of nights. Cold in the room. A steam heater in the room that was not very hot and not constant. It was good for my purpose but don't know if I would come back. I expected a little more for $116.95 a night.

"Surprisingly great!"
I had read some of the negative reviews of this hotel, and had low expectations (we were desperate and needed a place to stay). I was very pleasantly surprised by the whole experience here! The staff was very friendly, the room, bedroom and bathrooms were all clean, smelled great and were in good shape. The room/facility was quiet, even though it is located right on Broadway - helped by the great AC unit in the window, as well as by the ceiling fan above. The room also had a nice flat screen TV that I was not expecting. We had booked a room with two double beds and were expecting a shared bathroom down the hall, but we were given a room with a private bathroom attached! I did check out the shared bathroom as I went down the hall - it looked perfectly clean and nice as well. I was nervous about staying here with my husband and two kids, but honestly, it was a great night in a great room. For the price of NYC in July, it was a super value.

"Basic hotel near central park"
The hotel was shabby and in need of updating and decorating but spotlessly clean. There was a coffee maker, microwave and fridge but no crockery or utensils, but we managed to purchase some nearby !! The air conditioning unit was very noisy and needed to be turned full on during our stay as the weather was extremely hot, but as our days were spent exploring we slept soundly in the comfortable bed which was made every day. The shower was great and we were given fresh towels every day. We think the tv may have been pulled off a skip and we could only get about 5 channels !!! , but we had no problem with wifi. The receptionists were helpful and friendly with the exception of one who spoke with a heavy accent and was quite difficult to understand. The hotel was well situated close to an underground station 5 stops from Times square, Central Park was a 10 minute walk east and a lovely riverside walk along the Hudson towards central New York a three minute walk west. Lots of places to eat on Broadway a few minutes walk and a brilliant supermarket on the corner of Broadway and 75th Street which sold hot food to take away if on a budget as eating out is quite expensive. Overall for the price we were very pleased with our choice of hotel but it would not suit someone requiring a more modern/up to date feel.

"Big and popular Hostel in Manhattan"
Overall, I really liked this hostel. It was the cheapest place to stay in Manhattan, and was within walking distance to Columbia University (reason for my trip), and close to the subway. It's not in the heart of Manhattan or near most of the touristy attractions, but because there are three subway lines within a couple of blocks everything is easily accessible. The hostel also offers daily tours and activities, it was always easy to meet new people.

"Exactly what you pay for. Nice room terrible bed."
Service was fine only had internet in the lobby. Room was much bigger than I expected but the beds are terrible. Everything was clean. All the shared showers need to be upgraded so there is water pressure. Also they skimp on toilet paper you have to go and ask for it at reception every time you need to use the bathroom.

Pocket Guide: New York Upper West Side 2 stars Hotels

Some bemoan that the Upper West Side has become a version of the Upper East Side. Case in point: Columbus Circle’s Time Warner Center, one of New York’s priciest real estate. The Upper West Side includes the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the American Museum of Natural History, and Columbia University. Harlem, the legendary African American neighborhood, lies north and caps Manhattan.
