Pocket Guide: 2 Stars Hotels in Sofia

Find 2 Star Hotels in Sofia

If you’re looking to visit a great-value European capital then the Bulgarian city of Sofia is an excellent place to start. This rapidly growing metropolis is brimming with trendy coffee shops and fascinating museums, and Sofia is well-known for being affordable. If you’re on a budget then Sofia is an ideal place to find cheap hotels, guesthouses and a range of two-star accommodation.

What Kind of 2 Star Hotels Are There in Sofia?

Nearly all of Sofia’s two-star hotels are in the compact city centre, particularly in the streets close to Central Station and Lavov most metro stop, or close to Vitosha Boulevard.

The property types range from standard hotels and guesthouses to apartments, hostels and other backpacker accommodation. Expect straightforward guest rooms and dorms – sometimes with in-room fridges and microwaves – with either en-suite or shared facilities. In most cases high-speed internet is provided, along with other amenities such as laundry rooms, bars or lounges. Some properties offer air conditioning and/or complimentary breakfast, while others provide an on-site restaurant or room service.

What Are Some Cheap Things to Do in Sofia?

Sofia continually ranks as one of the cheapest cities in Europe for tourists, so even the kind of attractions that would be pricy elsewhere are often affordable here. There are plenty of ways to see the city for little or no money at all.

The National Art Gallery on Battenberg Square was established in 1928 and houses a rich collection of Bulgarian art, including more than 3,500 paintings and 800 statues. The gallery is open most days and its central location makes it easy to get to wherever your hotel is. Just outside the city in the foothills of Mount Vitosha is the World Heritage Site of Boyana Church, which houses some ancient 13th-century frescoes.

Back in the city, some major museums offer fee-free entry at certain times, such as the National Museum of History and the National Gallery for Foreign Art, and the National Archeological Museum – but even the usual ticket prices for these are budget-friendly.

Book a cheap hotel in Sofia and you’ll have plenty of options for enjoying this vibrant city on a budget.
