Arrived early afternoon, room ready, staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Room good and comfortable, just as advertised. Bar area pleasant for an evening drink. Breakfast was fine. Good value for money. Would use this hotel again.
We were made to feel welcome as we didn't arrive until 12.30, very helpful at the reception desk. We had a relaxing stay before our 3 hour drive home .
It was very friendly - the staff are very thoughtfull & the room was very good for a disabled person including the handrail for the shower / bath. I would certainly stay there again.
great service we arrived late as m 25 closed took us 5 hours in stead of three they restaurant was closed but they directed us to a take out when we got back we eat it with the landlady and her family and had a drink one of the best hosts
I was at an event in Basildon but due to the Chelmsford Festival Canvey Island was one of the nearest hotels available, The Hotel was reasonable but would have been hard to find without Satnav, the room was basic I do prefer ensuite normally, I would rate it good for the price.
I stayed at the Stonar In August 2017 for a couple of nights whilst attending an event at the Princes Theatre in Clacton. I had booked well in advance and got a nice room for single occupancy at a very good price - a double at the rear with an en-suite (bath and shower). It was a nice bright room ...
I had a wonderful surprise, this place is a gem, near Saffron Ewalden but with easier access and parking! I will come again, it is recently done up with good decor and facilities. Nice staff and good value.

There's plenty to do in Essex, whether you're enjoying a romantic break or a family holiday. Get away from it all and explore the surrounding countryside, just the two of you - Essex is home to more than 3,500 miles of bridleways and footpaths. The county also has its fair share of historic country houses, including Audley End House and Gardens, one of the most spectacular stately homes in England - Paycocke's House with its beautiful cottage garden is also worth visiting.
Families can enjoy activities such as white water rafting at Lee Valley White Water Centre or head for Colchester Zoo or Marsh Farm Adventure Park, where the kids can enjoy pony or tractor rides as well as birds of prey displays, pony grooming and more. If you're stuck for ideas, ask at your hotel and staff will usually be only too happy to recommend the best things to see and do in the local area.
Essex has some excellent shopping centres where you'll find everything from high street brands to designer labels. Places like Intu Lakeside are a popular choice for families, with a range of shops and restaurants under one roof - great for keeping everybody happy. If it's independent retailers you're after, Chelmsford High Street is the place to head, or why not visit the Wilkins Factory in Tiptree to take a guided tour and pick up some of their famous jam? After a busy day of shopping, you'll find shopping centres such as Culver Square in Colchester have plenty of chain restaurants to choose from for a meal out, or you could always pick up some local produce at the farmer's markets, held in most towns, and head back to your hotel.
