I booked a room at this hotel after a lot of searching on Expedia. It seems that prices were high on the night for which we needed a room in DC (we were going to a concert and wanted to stay overnight in Washington.) The hotel was pleasant, in a quaint kind of way. This is not your typically asceptic modern hotel. It is a bit older and has character. But no worries: The A.C. worked very well and the bathroom was very modern and great. Oh, and it's got a parking lot ($ 34.00 a day.) proximity to DuPont Circle is a plus.
The staff was very nice, and the desk clerk even gave me a nicely chilled bottle of water before I stepped out for the day (it was over 90 out, and pretty humid to boot!).
Overall, the experience was fine, but I have stayed at hotels that I like better in DC.
The rooms were surprisingly well-sized for being in a big city. Cabs were always available. Close to the zoo. It's a lively hotel. Seemed family/kid-friendly. Has a pool. It's not a huge pool, but the kids did not seem to mind. Nice workout area. The carpet in the room seemed to be a little "crusty", but no big deal. My spouse is a clean freak and did not seem to mind. The front door valets were very nice. The front desk people were "just okay." Always seemed a little bothered. The hotel had a wine happy hour every day. I'm allergic to wine, but people seemed to enjoy it.
We stayed in four rooms for a family trip to the National Portrait Gallery and the staff were excellent in finding rooms for all of us on the same floor. The pool was wonderful on such a hot day, the only concern was that the water was much higher than the posted 4-5 feet. The location is great near transportation and walking distance from the White House.
Mid-rises and mansions grace the leafy streets of Dupont Circle, where independent cafes and shops thrive. With a number of gay bars and businesses, this area is DC’s main gay neighborhood. Foreign flags fly high on Embassy Row, the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from the Circle to the National Zoo and National Cathedral. At night, locals head north to Adams Morgan for drinks and live music.
